Say hello to Molly! A 3 month old Shepherd X recently adopted from Faithful Friends Animal Society in Wilmington Delaware, her exuberance and love of learning has made her the perfect candidate for puppy training. She is my first client since rebooting my training business after a brief hiatus, and the first participant in our Rescue Me training program.
The Rescue Me program was designed to reduce the revolving door recidivism rates that so many animal shelters are plagued with by providing easy access to affordable, low-cost behavioral modification. It is offered to prospective dog adopters and foster parents who are willing to work through any and all behavioral issues that may come with the adoption of a shelter animal at a flat rate of $20 per session plus travel expenses. Based around five years of extensive shelter work ranging from volunteer duties to aggression behavioral modification and environmental enrichment procedures, It aims to provide dogs of all ages with the foundational knowledge to resolve and prevent future behavioral issues. All training is guaranteed for life, in the event that there is a regression in behavior or the development of new problems, and allows the ability to receive free over the phone consultations and advice at any point in time. The hope is to provide an AFFORDABLE and QUALITY bond between adopters and their new companions, so that they are both Free to Be the best versions of themselves that they can be.
If you or someone you know is fostering or has recently adopted a dog from an animal rescue, do not hesitate to call for a free phone consultation to assess your dogs needs and the best course of action for training procedures. Each training program teaches your dog the basic behaviors necessary for functioning in everyday human society, as well as the foundations of all behavioral modification: luring, shaping, targeting, and capturing are used to achieve commands such as sit, down, stay, recall, and loose leash walking. This is all done while addressing strategies for the prevention of behavioral issues that may develop. These include door charging, play biting, leash pulling, destructive chewing, crate training, and proper socialization manners with both people and other dogs.
As part of the Rescue Me program, all training plans are individualized to meet your specific needs, while adhering to a strictly methodical and science based approach to behavioral modification. The primary means of communication utilized is the clicker in conjunction with positive reinforcement... Physical punishment free! Although negative punishment forms such as removing attention or valuable incentives may be utilized at times, it is by no means used as a main motivator in these training programs. You will find that the bond between dog and adopter is enhanced considerably through the use of clear and concise boundaries, as well as the trust that is established from effective means of communication via clicker training. This is done in ways that would never be achievable through the use of tools such as prong/electric shock collars. So if you are looking to create a relationship that will last a lifetime, please give us a call!
