Alex has always been my mentor and cheerleader from the beginning, when no one knew who I was. This job can be really hard, and taking time for oneself is even harder. Go send The Pipsqueakery some love for my birthday too, please!
I’m not sure why any of us thought even a four day absence would go unnoticed. I guess we were all focused on keeping things held together here. But, well. It was noticed. And I’ve been given the go ahead to shed some light on Alex’s missing presence here on our page.
We’ve been pretty candid about how hard this job is. We are blessed to have a large group of amazing followers. And while your support does help our morale, we still go through a lot that we don’t talk about here. Rescue is HARD work. It’s physically and emotionally draining. The rescue community has lost more than our fair share of good people because of the burden we willingly take on. Because we care about the animals, we sacrifice ourselves every single day. We’re not looking for pity, it’s just part of the gig.
Unfortunately, the stress of this reality got to the point that Alex has had to step back some. It’s resulting in a lot of changes that are honestly going to be amazing, for both us and the animals. But it’s been a really, really intensely sh*tty week out here.
None of us want to become part of the statistic that is animal caregivers who succumb to these challenges. With that in mind, we’ve all been stepping up to shoulder many of the things Alex usually took care of. It’s a major adjustment, but when it comes to taking care of one of our own, we’re all more than willing to do it.
So, we’re not doing as good a job of making regular posts, or responding to messages. We’re also still on something of a conditional intake freeze. We’re here to help, but right now we’re putting Alex first because we want her to be okay and we don’t want to do this without her.
It may be some time until we establish the new normal and really get back to it, and we hope everyone will bear with us while we figure things out. We aren’t going anywhere. We’re just shuffling some things around so that we can ultimately be better than we ever have been before.
And as always, your support means the world to us. We cannot do this without you.
