Cavies and Canines Animal Rescue

We are a 501c3 nonprofit and PACFA-licensed guinea pig rescue and sanctuary in Colorado. We take back our guinea pigs at any time, no questions asked.

We are based out of Northern Colorado and have fosters and adoptable guinea pigs throughout the Front Range. Our goal is twofold – to provide homeless pets with loving homes and provide judgement-free advice to well-intentioned human family members to facilitate a happily ever after. We find that guinea pigs are commonly incorrectly perceived as “starter pets” for kiddos, and given up or abandoned when it becomes clear that they can be higher maintenance, more expensive, or more fragile than expected. It’s also why one of our main goals at Cavies and Canines Animal Rescue is to educate – we want your family to find a pet that is the perfect fit … a win-win for everyone! We recognize that circumstances may change and our priority will always be the well-being and safety of our adopted animals. Amazon wishlist: https://tinyurl.com/8ab5tjbz

Pierre and Rusty needed a little cheering up ….

Herbie is ready for Halloween! He’s up for adoption with his big bro Karma in Lafayette, Colorado.

Everyone has been so kind to us, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

One thing I’ve let go during this grieving process is pig laundry. It’s at laundromat-level. If anyone wants to take a few loads this weekend, I’d be much appreciative!

Pierre’s face when I told him I’m not feeling very inspired or creative for fundraising but need $2000 by Tuesday.

Boo!

This will never feel real. It would never have been enough time, but only 5 years with my best boy just feels evil.

F**k Cancer.

I’m so sorry your time with us was so short, Charles. And my time with 4 boarz ended in 2 in 24 hours. I guess that’s hospice for you. My heart is absolutely shattered for Pierre and Rusty more than anything else. Maybe I’m not built for this, after all.

She has a lot of tiny mouths to feed 🐹💛

Most high school graduates spend the summer getting ready for college. But 17-year-old Emily Ristuccia is spending hers rescuing guinea pigs. Ristuccia runs Piggy Overnight Camp, a state-licensed guinea pig rescue, where she cares for abandoned, ill or lost guinea pigs. She also cares for pets if their owners go on vacation.

After a gap year to keep her rescue running, Ristuccia plans to attend a nearby college and work towards her dream of becoming a veterinarian. In the meantime, as more animals continue to arrive needing care, she's hoping more fosters, volunteers and supporters will help give these little pets a second chance.

We lost Dobs last night very suddenly, the most special boy I’ve ever known.

Emergency good vibes needed. Natalie is headed to ER with Dobs. We don’t know what’s going on yet but are praying it’s something we can fix.
