Our mission at Animal Rescue Foundation is to rescue and rehabilitate homeless cats and dogs when humanely and financially feasible while ensuring they received the proper veterinary care, including spay, neuter and all necessary vaccinations prior to their adoption.

Some of you may already know Gracie’s story from the news or social media. It’s a story that breaks your heart, but one we hope will have a much happier ending. ❤️

After everything this sweet girl has endured, we are so grateful to everyone who worked tirelessly to get her to safety and make sure she received the medical attention she urgently needed.

Now, Gracie is with us at ARF. We’ve prepared a cozy space just for her, and while she has a long road ahead, she’ll have everything she needs to rest, heal, and feel safe.

A special thank you to Waterbury Animal Control, Waterbury Woof Pack CT, the CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteer Network, and VCA Shoreline for everything you’ve done for Gracie. And to our friends at Bantam Lake Animal Hospital, thank you for continuing to be there for her as she begins her recovery.

We can’t change what happened to Gracie, but we can make sure she knows what love, kindness, and gentle hands feel like from here on out.

The wonderful adoption announcement our volunteers have been waiting for… After more than a year and a half of waiting, Mia has a home. 🥹💕

Our second-longest feline resident at ARF was adopted this weekend, and our volunteers are feeling all the things: pure happiness for our sweet girl, and a little ache knowing we won’t see her perched on the little window ledges in her room when we walk in.

Since March 2025, those ledges have been Mia’s lookout spots. From there, our quiet supervisor watched the world go by, keeping tabs on her room and slowly learning that people could be kind. That they would bring treats, offer a little playtime, respect her boundaries, and keep showing up without asking her to be someone she wasn’t.

Mia came to us from a garage colony, carrying experiences we could never fully understand. She needed time to decompress, feel safe, and begin to trust. At ARF, she had that time—as much as she needed, at her own pace.

While other cats went home, Mia remained a little wallflower in our shy cat room. But being quiet never meant she had less to offer. There was so much personality behind those wonderfully quirky expressions, so much curiosity, and a sweet girl whose small moments of connection were worth every bit of patience.

Happy adoption life Mia! We are so happy that someone saw her for who she really is and chose her. Someone understood that a cat doesn’t have to run into your arms to deserve a place in your heart. That a quiet companion, content to share your space and watch the world alongside you, can bring so much joy.

To Mia’s adopter: thank you for opening your home to her exactly as she is. For giving her a family where trust can keep growing and love can unfold on her terms.

Mia, we’ll miss your little face as we walk into ARF everyday. But knowing you finally have a window perch of your own—and a family to call yours—is everything we hoped for.

Happy forever, sweet girl. We can’t wait to watch you blossom. 🐾💕
