When everything changes overnight, our pets feel it too.

They may not understand why they're in a new place, why their routine has disappeared, or why the people they trust are under so much stress, but their nervous systems do.

That's why we're launching Fearless Together: Wildfire Calming Clinics for pets displaced by the Spokane wildfires.

Beginning August 15, we'll be providing free Fear Free exams and up to one year of calming medication to help pets navigate this incredibly difficult time.

This is our way of supporting the families in our community and making sure no pet has to carry this burden alone.

We don't just recommend enrichment for cats, we practice it with our own!

Dr. Megan is showing how easy it can be with a simple DIY enrichment activity: fresh cat-safe greens and a sprinkle of catnip tucked inside a toy for Chandler to explore. It's an easy way to engage your cat's natural instincts, encourage play, and provide much-needed mental stimulation.

Whether your cat is an Adventure Cat or a Homebody, this is a great enrichment activity to try at home.

Some cats are literally BEGGING for more adventure and we're just not picking up on it!

Meet Chandler, our newest participant in the summer challenge and Dr. Megan's other cat buddy! This week, he took a trip to a local coffee stand in Spokane for a little adventure and got his first pup cup ☕).

One of our favorite parts of this challenge is seeing how different every cat is. Some can be ready to explore new places, while others are happiest soaking up the experience from the comfort of a carrier or catio. There's no "right" way to adventure, just the way that's right for your cat.

The carrier should never just be the thing that appears before a vet visit, that's the fastest way to make your cat hate it. 😅

Leave it out, make it cozy and let them explore it on their own terms. That's where getting them to be open to spaces outside your home starts!

Maybe you're mortified, 😂 we're totally not!!

A cat that's curious, climbing, and exploring at the vet is showing us they feel safe enough to be themselves.🐱

Stressed cats do the opposite: they freeze, hide, flatten against the table, or try to escape.😔

Playful behavior tells us their nervous system isn't in survival mode, which means we can do a better, more accurate exam and your cat walks away without a traumatic experience!!

Being a veterinarian is a serious job...
But that doesn't mean we have to take ourselves seriously all the time. 😂
Between appointments, surgeries, and helping pets feel safe, we like to keep things light around here. Sometimes that means consulting our very qualified desk toy advisory board.
