🎃 A little Halloween magic, a few treats, and some happy, healthy pets! 🐾🧡

Halloween is here, and while we're busy picking out costumes and stocking up on candy, let's make sure our four-legged family members enjoy the fun safely, too!

A few simple reminders can make the night a little less spooky for our pets:

🍫 Keep the candy stash out of reach. Chocolate and sugar-free candies containing xylitol aren't safe for pets. Keep treats tucked away where curious noses and paws can't find them.

🏡 Give them a cozy hideaway. Doorbells, costumes, and a steady stream of trick-or-treaters can be a lot for some pets. Set up a quiet room with their favorite bed, toys, and maybe a special snack while the festivities are happening.

🕯️ Decorate with pets in mind. Keep lit pumpkins, candles, electrical cords, and small decorations safely out of paw's reach. Battery-operated candles are a great festive alternative!

👻 Costumes are optional! Some pets love dressing up, while others would rather skip the whole production. If your pet wears a costume, make sure it's comfortable and doesn't restrict movement, breathing, or vision. A festive bandana counts, too!

🐕 Make sure they're easy to identify. If your pet is heading outside, keep them securely leashed and make sure their collar and ID tags are on. A microchip with current contact information is another great way to help them find their way home.

Most importantly, let your pets celebrate in whatever way makes them happiest. Sometimes the best Halloween plan is a cozy bed, a favorite toy, and absolutely no ghosts at the front door. 😂

Options Veterinary Care helps more than 8,200 dogs and cats each year by providing access to quality, affordable veterinary care and helping keep pets and their people together.

We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

This role is for someone who thrives in a fast-paced clinic but leads with calm, compassion, and consistency. You’ll play an important role in supporting our veterinary team, caring for patients, and helping families navigate their pets’ medical needs.

We’re looking for someone who is mature, dependable, detail-oriented, and confident in their veterinary skills. Someone who takes initiative, follows through, adapts to changing priorities, and takes pride in doing things right.

At Options, this is more than assisting with appointments and procedures. It’s an opportunity to use your experience to make a meaningful difference for pets and families who need it most.

Frank has been left behind for 12 years. Together, WE can make sure he gets the care he deserves. ❤️

Imagine spending more than a decade in one place, only to watch people come and go, each time being left behind. That’s been Frank’s life.

Frank first came to the attention of Community Cats of Reno when he wandered into a colony where their team was feeding and trapping cats. He was friendly, and they hoped someone might recognize him and claim him. No one ever did. But they learned that Frank had been living at a nearby rental property for more than 12 years. Over the years, different tenants had fed him, but whenever they moved away, Frank was left behind.

When the latest tenant’s dog kept him from returning to the house, Frank found his way to the cat colony. By then, life outdoors was getting harder for this older gentleman, and Community Cats stepped in to give him a chance at something better.

Now, they’re caring for Frank with the hope of finding him a loving home. ❤️

But first, Frank needs some medical care. During his checkup at Options Veterinary Care, our veterinarian discovered significant dental disease. Thankfully, his pre-surgical bloodwork was good, and his dental surgery is scheduled for later today.

The cost of Frank’s bloodwork, anesthesia, dental surgery, and additional medication is estimated at $1,503.71, on top of the more than $200 already spent on his antibiotics and pain medication.

We want Frank's next chapter to be different, starting with the medical care he needs to feel better and enjoy the comfort he deserves.

Meet Francis and Max, a bonded pair of boys looking for a family to love them both! 🏡❤️

🤎 Francis is the handsome brown tabby who came to us from Washoe County Regional Animal Services after no other rescue group was able to take him. He was rescued from a heartbreaking overcrowding situation where 10 cats were living in poor conditions in a tiny room. Now, Francis is ready for a fresh start and a safe, loving home.

🧡 Max is our sweet orange boy who was found at a mine in Mineral County. He showed up needing help, and thankfully, his story led him to safety.

Somewhere along the way, these two found each other in their foster home and formed a special bond. Now, they need to start their next chapter together! 🐈🐈

Francis is a bit shy, so his ideal home would be a quiet, peaceful place without lots of activity or other animals. And one thing is certain: Francis needs his buddy Max by his side! These boys have found comfort in each other, and we're hoping to find someone who will give them both the happy ending they deserve. 💕

💚 A little love, a few important vaccines, and one very cute pup!

Meet Oso, a Chihuahua/Yorkie mix who recently visited Options Veterinary Care with his person, Paula, for vaccinations. Oso received his DA2 vaccine, helping protect him against serious canine diseases. We’re happy to help Oso stay healthy, and we’re grateful to Paula for making his preventive care a priority! 🐾

💚 What happens when someone believes the impossible might actually be possible? Lives get saved.

We’re so grateful to Cathy M. Rosenthal, The Pet Pundit for shining a spotlight on Options Veterinary Care co-founder Bonney Brown in her wonderful article, Bonney Brown: Making Big Ideas Possible — and for featuring Bonney among the 45 contributors to her book, Humane Perspectives: Leadership in Animal Welfare.

Bonney has spent her career challenging conventional thinking, believing in what’s possible, and helping turn big ideas into lifesaving results. But one of the most important lessons she shares is that it takes a village. As Bonney emphasizes in the book, it’s about getting everyone “pulling in the same direction.”

And that’s what lifesaving is all about. 💚

It takes people willing to dream bigger, roll up their sleeves, find solutions, and keep going when the challenges seem overwhelming. It takes collaboration, a positive mindset, hard work, and a shared belief that we can do better for the animals and people who need us.

💙 Barry needed help, and Options nonprofit clinic was there for him. Now, we need YOU.

When Barry started peeing outside his litter box and crying, his family knew he needed help. They love him dearly, but with unexpected financial challenges and no transportation, getting him to the vet wasn't easy.

That's where Options Veterinary Care stepped in. We arranged a cab ride so Barry could get to our clinic, where Dr. Kramer gave him a thorough exam and performed diagnostic testing to make sure he was okay. Urinary problems can become life-threatening in male cats, so we didn't want to take any chances.

Thankfully, Barry went home with special urinary diet food and a plan for his family to keep us updated on how he's doing. 🐾

Now, we're asking for your help to cover the $247 cost of Barry's care, testing, food, and transportation.

Options Veterinary Care helps pets get the care they need when their families are struggling financially. Your donations make it possible for us to do things like arrange transportation and provide essential veterinary care when families need a little extra help.
