Sophie is a 5-year-old Saint Bernard who has been adored by her dad, Dustin, since she was just 2 months old — and honestly, it shows. ❤️

Now over 100 pounds of pure sweetness, Sophie recently visited us for her annual exam, Bordetella and canine influenza vaccines, and heartworm screening looking every bit like the pampered princess she is. Complete with strawberry bows, a matching bandana, and freshly painted pet-safe nails from her grooming appointment, she absolutely stole the hearts of our team.

And beyond being adorable? Sophie was the perfect patient — calm, happy, gentle, and soaking up every bit of attention she could get.

During her visit, Dr. Kramer performed a full physical exam and found Sophie to be bright, alert, and overall very healthy. Her heartworm test came back negative, her vaccines were updated, and Dustin was able to discuss preventative care and long-term joint support to help keep his giant girl comfortable and thriving for years to come.

Not every story is about illness or emergency care.

Sometimes, the most meaningful stories are simply about the incredible bond between pets and the people who love them fiercely. Sophie’s visit was a beautiful reminder of what thoughtful, proactive care looks like — and of just how deeply animals can be cherished by the humans lucky enough to call them family.

And really… how could you not fall in love with a face like this? 🐾🍓

Tiny kittens. Big need. 🐾

Kitten season is here, and we urgently need fosters willing to open their homes to kittens like this sweet little one who came through our TNR program.

Some need bottle feeding.
Some just need a safe place to grow.
Some need socialization, love, and time to learn that humans can be kind.

Fostering saves lives — truly. It gives vulnerable kittens a chance to thrive outside of a shelter environment while helping us continue rescuing more cats in need.

We provide support, supplies, and guidance along the way. You provide the love. ❤️

If you’ve ever considered fostering, now is the perfect time to step in and make a difference for kittens who need you most. Get started at the link below.

Missy’s story began with a simple act of kindness, and now she needs YOUR help. 💕

When Robin, a senior pet owner, agreed to temporarily care for a friend’s dog, she never imagined that friend would never return… or that Missy, a sweet Doberman Pinscher, would become part of the family forever. From the very beginning, Missy fit right in — especially with her supportive canine brother by her side, even accompanying her to what was likely her very first veterinary visit. 🐾

But shortly after arriving in Robin’s care, a mammary mass that Missy already had began growing rapidly. Within just one month, it became urgent, opening and bleeding, making it clear she needed immediate medical care.

Dr. Judy confirmed the concerning mass and, because Missy had no known medical history, there was also uncertainty about whether she had ever been spayed. During surgery with Dr. Brad, the mass was successfully removed and it was confirmed that Missy had never been spayed — allowing her spay surgery to be completed at the same time to help protect her future health.

Thankfully, Missy’s surgery and recovery have gone beautifully. At her recheck appointment, she was healing well and continuing on a positive path forward. ❤️

Robin and her family have done everything they possibly can to provide for Missy after unexpectedly taking on her care, but the cost of surgery is beyond what they can manage alone. Missy’s remaining medical need is $1,315.94.

Missy’s story is about stepping up when an animal is abandoned, choosing love when it would have been easier to walk away, and making sure a dog left behind finally has the chance to be healthy, safe, and truly home.

If you would like to help Missy and Robin, donations can be made directly to Options Veterinary Care (linked below) on Missy’s behalf. Every dollar helps this sweet girl continue her new chapter surrounded by love. 🐶✨

This is what collaboration in animal welfare looks like. 🐾💛

Back in April, our Clinic Operations Manager, Rissa, found a stray dog and immediately stepped in to help. Unable to keep him at the time, she did exactly what responsible rescuers should do — she brought him to Washoe County Regional Animal Services in hopes that someone might be searching for him.

No owner ever came forward.

But Rissa never stopped thinking about him.

She kept tabs on where he ended up and eventually learned he was in urgent need of rescue placement. Wanting desperately to give him a loving home herself, she reached out to Art, Shelter Manager at WCRAS, to see what could be done.

Because WCRAS does not directly handle adoptions, this sweet boy — lovingly named Pozole — needed a rescue partner to step in and pull him first.

Enter Res-Que. ✨

Without hesitation, Res-Que stepped up to help make the adoption possible, coordinating with Rissa so this deserving dog could finally make his way home.

And now? Pozole — now lovingly named Sole (though “Chief” was apparently in the running thanks to the kids 😄) — is officially HOME in South Reno. 🏡🐶

Rissa shared this message with everyone involved:

“With your help, we were able to give Sole a forever home… from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you!”

(Resident dog Cabbage is still deciding whether they’re officially best friends yet.) 😂

Stories like this matter because they remind us that lifesaving is rarely done alone.

It took:
🐾 A compassionate finder
🐾 A municipal shelter
🐾 A rescue organization
🐾 Dedicated staff coordinating behind the scenes
🐾 And a family willing to open their hearts

Working together, we changed the outcome for one dog forever.

Thank you to Washoe County Regional Animal Services and Art, Res-Que, our very own Bonney, and everyone who helped make this beautiful ending possible. This is exactly what collaboration in rescue should look like. 💛

Most importantly?

Sole no longer has to wonder where his next meal will come from.
He no longer has to wait for someone to choose him.
He’s home. ♥️ ✨

We have the BEST news to share about Petunia — and you may need tissues. 🥹🌸🐈‍⬛

Petunia’s story is one of healing, second chances, and finding exactly where she was always meant to be.

Last fall, this sweet girl came to Options Veterinary Care with a painful leg injury. Thanks to one of our incredible fosters, medical care, antibiotics, pain medication, and lots and lots of love, Petunia healed beautifully. 💕

Her foster ultimately adopted her, hoping it would be forever — but over time realized that the resident cats in the home were simply too rowdy for gentle little Petunia. And that’s okay. Sometimes personalities just are not the right match, and recognizing that is an act of love too. Petunia did nothing wrong, and neither did her adopter. Everyone simply wanted what was best for her.

So we shared her story again and started searching.

Then… Jessica found us. ✨

We received a foster application from a semi-disabled senior living alone with no other pets, home all day, looking for companionship. She sounded absolutely perfect for Petunia. When we reached out to ask if she might be interested, her answer was immediate: YES.

Wanting to get Petunia settled quickly, our amazing staff member Amber personally delivered Petunia — along with supplies — to Jessica’s home. During the visit, Jessica shared something that gave all of us goosebumps: her mother, who passed away in 2023, had lovingly been called “Petunia” by her father. 🌸

Within ONE HOUR of arriving home, Jessica sent us photos and this message:

“I’m IN LOVE ❤️🐈‍⬛❤️🐈‍⬛❤️🐈‍⬛🙏🫶✨️”

The next morning, we checked in again and received this beautiful update:

“She did AMAZING. OMG SHE IS A LOVE BUG 🐈‍⬛🌸🫶 She’s eating on her own, so I haven’t needed to use any stimulants. She’s enjoying her Temptations snacks, loves constant belly rubs and attention. I could not have been blessed with a more perfect fit. Petunia & Options have truly and genuinely brought light ✨️ where it has been so dark for me. Thank you so much.”

The happiest ending of all? Jessica has already requested an adoption application. 💗

Sometimes the right ending just takes a little longer to find. 🌸

The cutest patient award goes to… Marley. 🥹🐾 Please enjoy this tiny cloud with legs. ☁️🐶

This 13-week-old Pomeranian came into Options Veterinary Care for his vaccines and honestly? He understood the assignment perfectly.

✨ Sat nicely for photos
✨ Delivered maximum fluff
✨ Gave tiny teddy bear energy
✨ 12/10 good boy behavior

And before anyone asks — nope, there wasn’t a dramatic story today. Marley’s family didn’t need financial assistance or emergency help.

Sometimes we just get to celebrate adorable puppies being adorable puppies… and honestly, we think the internet deserves that today. 💛
Now the real question is…
