Neshama Rescue is an all volunteer independent, 501 (c)(3) animal welfare and education organization. Our mission is to promote the rescue and adoption of companion animals, with a focus on senior and special needs pets. We believe every soul has intrinsic value and we seek to help communities see that value to create a kinder world. Our goals are to rescue animals from shelters, place them in lov

ing foster homes, and adopt them out to forever homes, as well as strengthen our communities’ education, laws and regulations regarding animal overpopulation and care.

“Neshama” means “soul” in Hebrew - our goal is to do soulful work and save as many souls as possible.

Neshama alum, Wee Angus, passed today from heart failure after a year and four months of love and life with his parents, Jennifer and Dan. Adopting a senior is sacred work, hard on the heart- but important because loving someone til the end is what life is all about. We loved you, sweet boy! 🌈

This is Miko. He was returned to Neshama four whole years after being adopted. And when he was, he had heartworm. We have been treating it but now something else has come up- Miko has an abscessed tooth 💔🦷 we maybe should have named him Job! Poor guy. 😭 We are taking him to the vet tomorrow (don’t worry, he’s on pain meds!) but he will definitely need a dental. Because we are a sanctuary now, not a rescue, we don’t have funds from people out in the community who see us regularly at adoption events, etc. So now we are asking for your help to get Miko’s medical help. Please go to link in bio, or donate.neshamarescue.org to help Miko. This guy has been through enough! Thank you for your help!

Fostering a senior is sacred work. There is no doubt about it. If you can give this scared, confused angel comfort and love by fostering, hurry and reach out to our friends Longleaf Animal Rescue because this senior doesn’t have time on his side.

Jase has been adopted

I know this is heartbreaking, we cannot judge the owners as we don’t know what their circumstances were. The point of the post is to get this boy somewhere out of the Shelter that is Safe safe to call Home.

💔 15 YEARS OF LOYALTY SHOULD NOT END IN A SHELTER 💔

This is Jase.

And if we're being honest, the shelter is no place for him.

Jase was surrendered to Granville County Animal Shelter on May 26, 2026, because his family was moving. At 15 years old, he suddenly found himself homeless and confused, entering an already overflowing shelter that simply doesn't have enough space for all the animals who need help.

The shelter is full.

Jase's time is already running short.

But before anyone gives up on him, we have to try.

Because Jase hasn't given up.

Despite losing the only home he's known, this sweet senior still greets staff and volunteers with a wagging tail and a sparkle in his eye. When he sees his friends coming, he gets a surprising pep in his step. He walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys attention, loves affection, and still has a playful side that reminds us there's plenty of life left in this old gentleman.

Like many senior dogs, Jase has a few lumps and bumps. He isn't perfect.

But neither are any of us.

What he is... is loving.

What he is... is loyal.

What he is... is deserving.

For 15 years, Jase gave his family his heart. He stood by their side through life's ups and downs. He loved without conditions. He asked for very little in return.

Now he needs someone to stand by him.

The thought of a shelter being the final chapter of his story is heartbreaking. A cold kennel is not where a dog who has spent 15 years being someone's companion should spend his remaining days.

He deserves a soft bed.

He deserves a family.

He deserves kindness.

He deserves a chance.

Maybe you're not looking for a puppy. Maybe you have room in your home and heart for a senior who simply wants to be loved. Maybe you're a rescue willing to give this wonderful boy the second chance he desperately needs.

Whatever the case may be, please take a moment to consider Jase.

The fact that he still carries so much joy after everything he's been through is nothing short of amazing.

Jase has not yet been heartworm tested. If he is found to be heartworm positive, Rocky's Bridge, Inc. has generously agreed to cover treatment through their veterinarian. If you choose to use your own veterinarian, Rocky's Bridge will contribute up to $200 toward treatment costs.

More photos of this sweet senior will be posted later this week.

Please share.

Please network.

Please don't let this be the end of Jase's story.

Fifteen years of loyalty has earned him something better than a shelter kennel.

Let's show him that his best days may still be ahead of him. ❤️

I hope someone sees him and realizes that senior dogs like Jase often make the most grateful, loving companions imaginable.

In collaboration with our friends at Cairn Rescue USA, we were able to get Dixie out of the shelter today! Our friends, Benson and Elijah flew her to safety today and we appreciate their kindness… more kind acts in the world, please! Dixie will be available with Cairn Rescue USA after she’s spayed and when we know a little more about what her perfect environment would be. Thanks Team Dixie! 🐾🙏🏼

Who wants to foster this GORGEOUS senior floof for Longleaf Animal Rescue??

Adopted ♥️

Nina is 11 ½ years old… and she doesn’t understand why her whole world just changed.

After spending her life in a home, she was surrendered to the shelter. Now she sits quietly, confused and heartbroken, waiting for someone who isn’t coming back 😞

Senior cats like Nina often get overlooked but they have so much love left to give. She doesn’t need much… just a soft place to rest, a gentle hand, and someone willing to give her the comfort she deserves in her golden years.

Nina is already spayed and has a reduced adoption fee.

Please, if you have room in your heart come meet her.

📍 Adoption hours are Monday through Friday, 10 AM – 4 PM
📞 Call for more information

As always, please share. Let’s help Nina find peace and love again. 🐾💔

‼️URGENT‼️
This family will be euthanized today in the shelter without a rescue to save them. The shelter is full and they are out of time. We would love to help them, but we need somewhere for them to go. A momma and kittens can happily stay in a bathroom until babies are old enough to wean. If you’re on the fence about fostering, now is the time! Please help us save them. If you can help, please apply now: https://www.longleafanimalrescue.org/foster
