SAFE Haven is Raleigh’s No Kill shelter and the only one exclusively for cats and kittens. SAFE Haven is a limited-access shelter; as one cat or kitten is adopted, another is rescued. While waiting for a space, cats are placed on a waiting list. The average length of stay for a cat at the shelter is 8 weeks. All cats adopted from SAFE Haven are sterilized prior to adoption and can never reproduce
We believe...
Every cat has value and deserves a chance for a permanent home. You should only euthanize cats that are too ill or injured to recover. Unless a cat can't recover we consider it adoptable and will work hard to find a home for it and always do! If euthanasia is necessary it is by lethal injection only. In Trap/Neuter/Return and committed through our own low cost spay and neuter clinic to sterilizing as many feral as well as stray cats and personal pets in our community as we can. In treating all cats in our shelter and make decisions for them the same way we do our own personal pets at home. No time limits are imposed on the process of restoring a cat or kitten to well being.
Hi there, I’m Fento, a 7-year-old gentleman with a heart full of love. I may not be a wild kitten anymore, but I still have plenty of love to give, cozy naps to share, and headbutts to offer. I’m all about calm vibes, soft blankets, and a forever home where I can finally relax and be loved like I deserve.
Come meet me at SAFE Haven — I might just be your new best friend. 💛

Tip 2: Brushing can help your kitty beat the heat. Removing excess fur can help your cat regulate their temperature better. So schedule that kitty spa day!
Are you passionate about people and cats? SAFE Haven for Cats is looking for a full-time Volunteer Coordinator to lead and grow our incredible volunteer program and community engagement efforts!
You’ll manage everything from onboarding and training volunteers to organizing events that amplify our mission in the Triangle.
Do you remember Manta Ray and Stingray? These kitties have had a tough road to the adoption floor, but they're now ready for their fur-ever home together!
Your baby’s socks. Or your neighbor’s baby’s socks. Or those one-off baby socks mysteriously hiding in your laundry room.
During surgeries, the clinic uses baby socks to keep kitty paws warm. We don’t care if they’re mismatched, gently used, or covered in cartoon dinosaurs. If they’re baby-sized, we want ‘em!
Drop off at SAFE Haven or send reinforcements by mail. Do it for the toe beans. 🐾
