Today we're focusing on the Ranch Riding class. Patterns will be distributed at check in. All youth and novice patterns will be walk/trot. The open pattern will be a bit harder and have canter. These patterns are very straightforward. If you hestitated to sign up for this class, don't worry! You will easily be able to memorize the pattern that day and have a successful run.

Four days until the Ranch Riding Show on May 1st.

We are so excited to see so many of you coming out to try Ranch Riding for the first time, as well as others more familar coming out to practice and sharpen your skills.

All breeds, disciplines, and skill levels are welcome!

Many of you have signed up for Ranch Riding Flat. This class is similar to Ranch Walk/Trot Flat, but is judged at the walk, trot and lope on the rail. This class reflects the versatility, attitude and movement of a working horse. The horse’s performance should simulate a horse riding outside the confines of an arena and that of a working ranch horse. This class should show the horse’s ability to work at a forward speed while under the rider’s control.

This class (and all classes) will be offered in the following divisions: 9 and under, 10-18, Novice (rider has never placed first in this event), Open.

This is a schooling show, so this is the perfect opportunity to try something new. No need to worry about having the right tack or attire. Come as you are, have fun, and learn something new. This show benefits the PRDC Drill Team.

Six days until the Ranch Riding Show on May 1st.

One of the classes is Ranch Trail. In this class, participants will work a minimum of six obstacles designed to show a horse’s ability and willingness to perform a normal days Ranch work. Gaits involved depend on class as part of the Trail Course. The obstacles are those that you may except to find doing ranch work (bridge, logs, etc.). These obstacles are different than what you would except at an Obstacle Show (no pool noodles!).

We’d like to introduce you to Gracie Causbrook, a past recipient of the Petaluma Riding and Driving Club scholarship fund. 🍀💚🐴 The Petaluma Riding and Driving Club Memorial Scholarship Fund, founded in memory of the late Jim Palm awards 3 $1000 scholarships to 3 Sonoma or Marin County youths involved in FFA, Petaluma Jr. Riders, 4-H or District 2 High School Rodeo. For all scholarship details, please head over to www.PetalumaRidingClub.com Gracie received this scholarship in July of 2021 at the Petaluma Riding and Driving Club. At the time she had just graduated high school and was beginning her college classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College. In her own words: “This scholarship helped me achieve my goals of taking classes to work towards earning my livestock and equine management certificate. I am currently using it to take online classes that are beneficial for me to achieve this certificate as well as to help me expand my knowledge in the equine and livestock community. Agriculture is important to me because I have grown up and worked with animals my whole life. Having access to agricultural related classes and being able to work with and show livestock has helped me work towards the future I want to have. I am currently in my second semester at the SRJC and I am hoping to achieve my equine and livestock management certificate as well as take equine and animal science classes.” 🍀🐴💚 We want you to know who you’re supporting when you donate to the scholarship fund. You can donate directly or come have some dinner with us on March 17! 🍀💚🐴
Hi all! I am a seasoned vegetable farmer looking to move back to the area and very interested in learning oxen training and driving. Are there any oxen-powered farms in the area (Petaluma or the North Bay more broadly) or other opportunities to learn? Please forgive me if this is not a good place to post such a question. Thanks so much for any insights or leads.
If anyone lost a Concho in the lower arena I found it and it’s sitting on the bleachers!
Thanks to everyone who came out today to ride, to teach and to cook!
