Erika Jansson is a dressage trainer extraordinaire, and I will be forever grateful for all she has done for my horse and me. I began working with Erika only nine months ago. Six years ago I had inherited a beautiful 18-year old Hanoverian gelding named Buie from my best friend Gwen Stockbrand. Due to Gwen’s illness and my own fears, he was primarily lounged for almost 10 years and rarely ridden. He is now 25.

One Sunday shortly after we moved to beautiful Woodbridge Farms, I was working him in the round pen and just broke into tears, overcome with fear and guilt. I didn’t know what to do, but I did know that I needed help. I asked Erika as she was finishing a lesson to please help me. She came into the round pen and lounged Buie for a couple of circles and then asked if she could sit on him. I said ā€œYes, absolutely.ā€ She got on and took him to the arena and rode. It was a magical moment for me and a relief for my horse. I was thrilled and relieved to see a highly-qualified professional ride my horse. He was an angel but very unfit. This moment was life changing for both Buie and me.

Since that time, she has worked with us almost five days a week, slowly and methodically building his fitness and helping me become a more confident rider. She has taken him up hills, long-lined him, ridden him in the arena and over cavalettis. With her expertise, Buie has built stamina and recovered much of his original training. Erika has been able to perform two tempi changes, canter half-passes, and half-steps with him. With her help and encouragement, I now am able to ride him comfortably at the walk, trot, and canter.

Erika has taken him to two schooling shows and won the class and high-point for both. It’s thrilling to see his progress. Buie could never have done this without her. She truly has been a life-changing force in our lives. I will be forever indebted to her for making all this possible.

In addition, Erika has an exceptional work ethic and professional integrity. She is accommodating and helpful to everyone and their horses at Woodbridge, as well as a superior rider and trainer. If you are looking for a dressage trainer, she is the person for you.

I first met Erika years ago, when a friend and I rode in her Caveletti clinic.Ā At the time, I was riding a friend’s rope horse in the clinic, and we got just as much help and attention as the gorgeous warmbloodĀ with his excellent and (much more advanced) rider.Ā Ā Ā Ā Erika was excellent…able to diagnose…and fix…a connection problem I knew I was having. I had not been able to adequately communicate my issue to previous trainers to get the help I needed.Ā  Erika saw the issue instantly without me saying a word, and knew what I was doing incorrectly.Ā  She was able to explain the adjustment I needed to make clearly and easily. I was thrilled. Lucky for me, this was in the first 10 minutes of the clinic. Erika was direct, kind, cheerful, matter of fact, and very informative. Ā

What impressed me even more has been her work with another friends warmblood in the past few months. This horse had been out of serious work for a number of years. I have done regular body work on him and know him quite well, and handle him frequently. Prior to starting with Erika, this gelding had some muscle imbalance and soreness issues.Ā  I’ve been seeing him about once a week, and wondered how he’d do coming back into work.Ā  In the following months with Erika, his muscle mass grew, he became more balanced developmentally, and most astonishing, he was never sore. He looks 10 years younger. She did such a thorough, kind, and well planned out rehab with him.Ā  Truly impressive!

Riding, teaching, and body building are three completely separate disciplines.Ā  Erika does all three expertly. She created a supportive and well thought out ā€œback to workā€ program, and adjusted it as the horse needed. It’s abundantly clear that the horse comes first with Erika.

I moved to Woodbridge Farm just over a year ago, and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. I’ve always had a good relationship with Cynthia, and the timing just felt right.

Since moving to America, I never truly felt like I was part of the barns I had been in before, but this time it just felt different. Being the only trainer, I was excited to set the standard my way.

We are all adults — not in high school. We should support one another, embrace each other, and help whenever we can. If you see someone at the barn you don’t recognize, ask if they need help.

Life is too short to be jealous, upset, or negative. Horses don’t read your thoughts — they read your emotions. So be present.

Nanquim sat in a pasture for four years when I started at Woodbridge Farm. Super overweight and slightly off. I had walked him up hills and long lines of three month before I started to ride him. Now 11 month later he is slim a sound and we started doing schooling shows. 🤩🤩🤩 Cynthia told me I brought him back from the dead šŸ™ŒšŸ™ŒšŸ™Œ love him so much 🄰🄰🄰

I love to help my clients no matter if it’s a horse or a pony. All of them can do dressage. I do ride my clients horses and ponies so I can feel what aids my clients need. It’s one way to watch but it helps me to feel the horse to know what exercises they need to work on. Also for me to get on and correct the horse or pony so it gets easier for my clients to ride them. šŸ„°šŸ˜šŸ„°
