Thank you to Emily, one of our scrub techs, for putting this wonderful post together for our page! Great work Em!

We know that keeping your pet in the “cone of shame” can be a stressful, and painful (especially when the pain is toward your shins). Recently, we were introduced to the “Lick Sleeve”, a product that acts as a barrier for an incision of the hind limb! Lick sleeves are another way to protect your pets' incisions from licking, scratching, and getting an infection following surgery. Think of it as a cool jogger pant for your pet’s leg! Although every pet seen here at Sirius will have to wear an e-collar when left alone, we have heard of the relief and peace of mind it provides for owners and pets. We have loved using the lick sleeves for the dogs who are more anxious, dogs who have trouble sleeping, eating, drinking, or doing simple movements with an e-collar on. If your furry friend is struggling in their e-collar or has struggled with them in the past, ask us about the lick sleeve!

Pictured here is Margot! Margot had a TPLO with a stifle arthroscopy surgery and is such a great model for the lick sleeve! Currently we only carry lick sleeves for in hospital patients; however, if you need more information on the lick sleeve or would like to order a lick sleeve for your pet, visit www.licksleeve.com #ecollar #licksleeve #postopcare #veterinarymedicine #verterinaryorthopedics #canineorthopedics #felineorthopedics #omahavet #siriusvet

#fracturefriday We have, unfortunately, seen many fractures this week and some had to wait a day or two to get taken care of. We triage our cases based on the severity of the injury, age of the patient, and stability of the fracture. Often times, if we can’t see a fractured patient immediately, stabilizing the fracture will give us a few days to work an unexpected case onto our busy schedule. Have a safe and healthy weekend! #veterinaryorthopedics #veterinarymedicine #omahavet #siriusvet

Metal plates and screws are used to hold bones together after an injury and, in #veterinarymedicine they are often used to adjust the angle of the tibia when the cranial cruciate ligament(CCL) had ruptured. Occasionally, the body will reject the implants or they can become infected. Once the bone has healed, the implants are no longer necessary. When this happens the plates and screws need to be removed. This is one of the few complications that is always discussed during a #Tplo consultation. After an implant is removed, we can no longer use them. However, we do keep them. And, this year the implants were put to great use for the holidays. These little guys are on the #christmastree in the clinic, along with some screw filled ornaments (we’ll post those later), and they are the most indestructible reindeers around! 😁 Thank you to Tara, our doctor assistant, and her family for sharing their creativity with the team! Happy Holidays! #creativeteam #reindeerornaments #implants #veterinaryorthopedics #veterinarysurgery #omahavet #siriusvet

Sirius Vet began as a mobile service in the Omaha area six(6) years ago. It was just Dr. Horstman, a mini coop, and Mrs. Horstman's help and support.
Five (5) years ago, Five Elements Veterinary Alternatives leased us space in their building so we could have a permanent home. We opened the doors to our first surgical location on December 5th, 2016 and had a team of five people. Four of the five original team members are still a part of the Sirius Vet team!
Thankfully, with the help of our local veterinarians and our wonderful team, we quickly outgrew our 1,200 sq. feet surgical area and began our search for our next home.
On our 5th year anniversary as an established hospital, we are now operating out of 9,000 sq. feet and have a team of 30 people.
In our five (5) years, we have added three (3) wonderful doctors to our team and we have expanded our services. We added intraoperative imaging, CT, Total hip replacement equipment, and we hope to continue adding services to our resume so we can continue to offer the best veterinary orthopedic care around.

The first four(4) images are of our first location.
The remaining images are of our new location on Harney St. and our first staff and client appreciation event that took place in October.

Cheers to many more years, Sirius Vet!

Our orthopedic specialists (from left to right) Dr. Horstman, Dr. Tan, and Dr. Zann. All three of our doctors have worked very hard to get where they are and they love what they do. When you come to Sirius Vet and meet with one of our doctors, our team will make sure to discuss all treatment options available. At times, surgery is only one of several things we can do to help your family friend. Should you and your family veterinarian require advanced orthopedic help, Sirius Vet is happy to be there for you. #welovewhatwedo #veterinaryorthopedics #veterinarysurgery #omahavet #siriusvet
