After a long day of Foster pick ups at the sanctuary- we were getting ready to head out when a car pulled up - a man jumped out-his dog severly injured from being hit by a car.
He told us that as he and his dog were coming back from a walk, a car came barreling around the corner, they couldn’t get out of the way in time - the car hit Shug in front of his own home- hard enough to cause damage to the front of the car and dislodge the bumper, but the driver kept going, didn’t even slow down.
Shug’s person rushed him to a vet but they were closing and couldn’t take an emergency case - thank goodness he found us somehow
Shug lay in the backseat breathing rapidly with blood coming from his nose - eyes twitching-we didn’t know if he would even make it a few minutes.
We immediately started calling every vet to see if they were still open -checking the traffic to determine which emergency vet was close enough to get there in time.
Rushed to one emergency vet -a huge huge thanks to Stitch In Time Animal Rescue - STAR for donating $2000 to that visit - they gave oxygen and performed auto transfusion because of the internal bleeding, but he couldn’t stay at that vet for further diagnostics -
so we transferred him to VEG San Ramon
- we needed to determine how severe the internal bleeding is, whether or not his spleen or liver may have ruptured. His lungs and abdomen- deeply bruised and filling with fluid.
When we walked in, the vets and team immediately circled around him, a flurry of ultrasounds, blood pressure, blood draws, pain meds imaging - all sandwiched between hugs and quiet babytalk about just how handsome is he and what a good boy he is. At one point, loaded up with pain meds, Shug just leaned his whole heart and soul into the vet.
He’s not out of the woods yet, we still don’t know what’s ruptured or broken or how bad the internal bleeding is. But for tonight, Shug sleeps, pain free, in a nest of warm towels.
Please help us help Shug.
His ER stay is estimated to be about $11,000. Which is a whopper of a vet bill .. but we just couldn’t say no to saving his life. ✨♥️✨
