Our vets made a house call this week to give our flamingo flock their checkups, and our staff accessorized for the occasion — check out vet tech Monica’s on-theme earrings and Keeper Valerie and Marisa’s signature socks!

We gave each flamingo a physical exam (including foot pictures to monitor foot health), blood work, and weight checks.

This flamboyance looks fabulous and is in good health. Great job vet team and keepers!

That's a wrap on ZooCamp! The Zoo is proud to have shared the summer with 1,355 campers this year.

ZooCamp and Oakland Zoo’s Conservation Department work together to choose an organization that shares our mission for wildlife and nature conservation. In alignment with our conservation pillar "Coexist with Wildlife", this year's partner was International Bird Rescue (IBR), with whom we collaborate on the Heron Rescue Project. ZooCamp features the city of Oakland's official bird, the Black-crowned Night Heron, on their shirts along with IBR's logo and pledges a donation of $2 per registration to IBR.

This duo is about as adorable as they come! Thumper and Tubman are currently at Oakland Animal Services, patiently waiting for their forever home but they keep getting overlooked.

Why? These two happen to be a little wobbly.
Thumper and Tubman have a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), also known as wobbly cat syndrome. It’s a neurological condition where the cerebellum—the part of the brain that controls coordination and balance is underdeveloped.

💡 What does that mean for their care? Not much! They’re just as playful, loving, and full of personality as any kittens. They may need small adjustments to daily life, like lower litter box sides or raised food bowls, but otherwise they can live long, happy lives. They just do it with a little more wobble and a lot more charm.

🐱 These two must be adopted together—and we promise, they’ll keep you laughing and loving every day.

✨ Please share and help us find a home for Thumper and Tubman. They may be wobbly, but their hearts are 100% solid gold. 💛

📍 Oakland Animal Services | 1101 29th Ave, Oakland, CA

🕒 Adoption Hours: Thursday 12–7 PM, Friday–Sunday 12–3 PM

We're thrilled to share what IInnii Days is all about!

Every June in Browning, Montana, this special week celebrates bison and their amazing importance to Blackfeet culture. This year, we at Oakland Zoo were honored to join the festivities and support bison restoration in their native lands. Huge thanks to for hosting such a heartfelt event and partnering with us for bison conservation!

Loved our bison videos? We’d love for you to visit our herd at Oakland Zoo—some of them will be heading to Montana next spring!

We’re so excited to share our journey to Montana with you!

This summer, a team from Oakland Zoo (including CEO Nik Dehejia) participated in Iinnii Days — a special week in Browning, MT filled with community, stories, music, and amazing food, all celebrating the importance of bison to the Blackfeet Nation.

We're proud to partner with Indigenous Led and the Blackfeet Nation to help bring heritage bison back to their home and support Blackfeet culture.

Watch our first video to discover why bison hold such a special place in Blackfeet tradition.

Stay tuned for two more posts today for even more heartwarming moments!

Oakland Zoo is dedicated to coexisting with wildlife, and you can join us, too!

🚗 Next time you visit the Zoo, remember to watch for wildlife crossing. Slowing down helps prevent accidents and keeps the area safe for the animals that call Knowland Park home.

California Trail is open!

Guests can access our brand new expansion by riding the gondola. It features eight new animal habitats, a beautiful new children’s play area, the fabulous Landing Café, and breathtaking views of the Bay Area.

A transformational project that will further our commitments to animal care, education, and conservation, California Trail provides a chance to interpret one of the great stories of change in California and emphasizes the role of humans in shaping the ecology of the San Francisco Bay Area. Through live native animal and plant exhibits, the Zoo will highlight the delicate balance between plants, animals, and humans—and the impact of change on all three. From casual visitors to serious students and scientists—all can join in the effort to nurture and create a better California.
