When Executive Director Jodi Buckman reflects on 2025, one memorable interaction stands out as a perfect representation of what inspires us at MN SNAP. Daily, we get to witness the love our clients have for their pets.

The MN SNAP team was in northern Minnesota this summer providing services for the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa with our partner, The Bond Between. Luna, a little princess of a Maltese mix and a sweet bundle of high-maintenance joy, had been entrusted to MN SNAP by her sweet owner to be spayed and vaccinated.

Jodi shares, “By the time Luna was ready to go home, we were quite sure that her paws must not touch the ground more than once or twice a day, as she expected to be held, carried about, and comforted all day (and we happily complied). Her owner had shared that he’d recently lost his wife and that caring for Luna had given him purpose again. His smile of relief when I placed Luna into his arms after recovery, and hearing him tell Luna all about the quiet evening he had planned for them, will stay with me forever.”

MN SNAP is closed December 24 through January 3 for a year-end break to provide our doctors and staff time for rest, renewal and to spend time with friends and family. We will reopen on January 4.

What inspires the MN SNAP team? The love our clients have for their pets! We see it daily in the hugs and sloppy kisses they exchange, in the whispered words of comfort, and in the relieved smiles that appear on pet owners’ faces when we settle their pets into their arms after surgery.

We have exciting news to share… MN SNAP has been nominated for the first-ever Snippy Awards! 🐾

This national ceremony will be held on World Spay Day, February 24, 2026. Out of more than 650 clinics nationwide, MN SNAP is honored to be named one of the top clinics making a lifesaving impact.

We are pleased to share that our website is fully restored after an unexpected issue! Thank you for your patience and understanding while our system was down.

Now that the website is up and running again, remember:

• December surgery appointments are full, but you can check online for openings as occasional cancellations do occur.

• Surgery appointments are available for booking four weeks in advance, so beginning December 7 you can book an appointment online for January 4 and beyond.

• MN SNAP is closed at year-end to provide our doctors and staff time for rest, renewal, and to spend time with friends and family. We’ll be closed December 24th through January 3rd.

We apologize for any inconvenience experienced while our website was down, and we appreciate the fantastic MN SNAP staff and volunteer team that kept things running smoothly at our clinics in the interim.

A quick update for our MN SNAP community: Our website is currently down, and our team is actively working to get it back up as quickly as possible. It may take a couple of days, and we appreciate your patience while we work through it.

A few important scheduling notes in the meantime:

🐾 December surgery appointments are full.
🐾 Because we close between Christmas and New Year’s, our next available appointments will open on December 7 for January 4 and beyond (we always open surgery appointments 4 weeks out).

If you’re hoping to schedule surgery, please mark your calendar for December 7.

It's like giving a safe cat hug: Sometimes our cat patients need a carrier sturdier than cardboard to get home and heal. Despite our calming and fear reduction clinic protocols, an especially anxious cat can be a potential escape risk after discharge, cat pairs (or more) who arrive together may need more space on the way home or a feral cat might need a more secure TNR (trap, neuter, return) completion. We've added these carriers to our Amazon and Chewy wishlists here: mnsnap.org/wish-lists/ and also accept drop-offs of gently used, clean, functional (including all parts) hard-sided (not collapsable or foldable), small crates. Thank you for helping our patients and their people!
