Keep it simple.

Dogs respond best to short, clear, consistent commands. The more extra words you add, the more chance there is for confusion. One word per action is usually the best approach, and using the same command every time helps your dog learn faster.

Simple commands, clear expectations, better results.

If you want help teaching your dog in a way that makes sense to them, message Gnawty Dog Academy.

Timing matters more than people think.

If your dog is overly wound up, distracted, or bouncing off the walls, training usually will not go the way you hoped. A calmer dog is often a more focused dog. Try working after a walk or some playtime, when your dog is more relaxed and ready to learn.

Set the stage well, and training goes a whole lot smoother.

If you need help getting your dog focused and responsive, contact Gnawty Dog Academy.

A clicker can make training easier and clearer for your dog.

Clicker training helps mark the exact moment your dog does the right thing, which can speed up learning and make rewards more meaningful. When used correctly, it helps your dog understand exactly what you want.

Clear timing, clear reward, clear results.

If you want help using tools like clicker training the right way, Gnawty Dog Academy can help.

𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗣𝗨𝗣 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧, 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗬

Stormy is a fun loving black Lab who just turned 1, and she has so much to celebrate.

She spent two weeks at dog camp with Gnawty Dog Academy and learned so much during her time here. Stormy worked on sit, down, stay, and walking nicely with her mom and dad without pulling them down the road. That kind of progress makes a big difference in everyday life, and it is always exciting to watch it come together.

Stormy also made herself right at home at Gnawty Dog Academy. She loves playing with her new friends, enjoys the play dates, and even came back for a 3 day sleepover while her humans were out of town. We would say she had a pretty great time.

We are so proud of Stormy and all she has accomplished, and we cannot wait to see what she does next.

Your dog is paying attention to more than just your words.

Body language matters in training. If your commands say one thing but your posture, movement, or energy say something different, your dog can get confused fast. Clear, consistent gestures help your dog understand what you’re asking.

If you want better communication with your dog, start with what your body is saying, too.

Need help building clear communication and better obedience? Reach out to Gnawty Dog Academy.

This family sent their girls to Heather for a two-week Board and Train, and the goal was clear: help them learn how to handle reactivity around other dogs, build better basic manners, and walk more politely on leash.

And the best part? They came home happier, calmer, and easier to live with.

That is what good training should do. It should not just teach commands; it should help your dog feel more settled and help your home feel more peaceful.

Heather loves these dogs like they are her own, and that care shows in the progress they make.
