With the Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) outbreak, please keep our herd in mind.

When partaking in lessons please be sure not to come in contact with other horses from other farms before arriving at ours. Wash hands and change clothes if nessisary. Michigan does have at least one confirmed case as close as Livingston. This is not the first outbreak and won't be the last.

At this time we are still offering our current off-site lessons.

Let's talk cold! 🥶
There is no BLANKET statement for all horses (pun absolutely intended)
❄️Horses fair well in the cold, in fact they do best in 18°F to 59°F as long as shelter and hay is available.

❄️Horses generate heat while they eat. Their hindgut acts as a furnace. Therefore we keep hay available at all times during turnout.

❄️Horses do not always need a blanket, their coats grow thicker creating a layer of insulation. When you see a horse with snow accumulation this means the coat is working and no heat is escaping to melt the snow on them.

❄️Blankets are nessisary if the coat is compromised, if the horse is underweight, when shelter is unavailable for long periods, show horses, clipped horses, etc. We do blanket after our horses have a chance to grow their coat and the temps drop below 17°F because our horses stay out most nights. All of our pastures have shelters available.

❄️Not all farms have the same protocol because they are not all set up the same and not all horses have the same needs.

❄️It's good for horses to be able to move around in cold weather, especially if they're used to turnout.

❄️ The best part in cold weather is NO FLIES!
