DAR Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of abused animals in MX donors. and Canada to be adopted.

Defenders of Animals at Risk (DAR) Foundation is a 100% volunteer ran non-profit dedicated to protecting and improving the lives of abused, abandoned, mistreated, and neglected animals in Mexico. We are the U.S.-based sister organization of Fundación DAR, a cat and dog shelter located in Tequisquiapan, Querétaro, Mexico. DAR Foundation helps raise awareness about the plight of neglected animals in

Mexico, while also providing funding from U.S. All donations collected through us go to Fundación DAR to keep their shelter of 50+ animals running. It also helps cover abused animal’s medical costs, animal welfare education efforts, low-cost vaccination and sterilization clinics for the public, and covers the cost of flying dogs to the U.S.

Our hearts are full, we're overjoyed to share that our beloved Xena and Zeus have been adopted together!

Finding loving homes for large dogs is never easy, especially when they’re energetic Husky mixes. But these two sweet souls have found the perfect place: a spacious, cool environment where they can run, play, and thrive without the stifling heat of the city.

We already miss their playful energy and loving presence, but knowing they’ll be so loved and happy fills us with joy.
Congratulations, Xena and Zeus—you’ll always have a special place in our hearts.❤

We’re overjoyed to share that Lizzy and Mr. Darcy have found their forever homes! From now on, they’ll grow up surrounded by love and the care they’ve always deserved.
We warmly invite you to meet our other rescued animals still waiting for a family. Each one has completed their full health protocol and is ready to fill a home with love, joy, and companionship.

TAMMY
A few months ago, while walking through an isolated, overgrown area, we heard the faint, desperate cry of a puppy. We immediately began searching, guided only by the sound of her weakening voice. It was incredibly difficult—the thick brush made it nearly impossible to see anything, and her cries were growing fainter by the minute.

After hours of searching, we finally found her: a tiny little pup, no more than three weeks old, fragile, dehydrated, and completely alone. She was so small, so helpless… We are convinced someone abandoned her there—there was no way such a young puppy could have ended up in that place on her own.

Thankfully, she recovered. Tammy grew stronger each day, and eventually became a joyful, playful little dog full of life. And the best news? She has now been adopted into a loving home. ❤

Every one of our rescued dogs carries a story—most of them painful tales of abandonment, fear, and neglect. That’s why each adoption is a celebration for us. It means healing, a second chance, and the hope of a better life. And it allows us to keep going—to rescue, to protect, and to love even more animals in need.

New Puppies!
Say hello to Arya, Tyrion, Lizzy, and Mr. Darcy — four sweet little 3-month-old pups we rescued from different places. They’re full of love, in good health, and are currently receiving their deworming and vaccinations.
We’re so happy they’re doing well, and soon they’ll be ready to find their forever homes. Aren’t they just the cutest? 💖

IRENE
Some stories touch our hearts deeply — this is one of them.
Irene was rescued 4 years ago in terrible shape. Against all odds, she healed and became a chubby, happy dog.

However, Irene had a challenge — she couldn’t live with other dogs because she would become aggressive, although with humans she was always the most loving and gentle soul. Sadly, we had to keep her separated from other dogs, and she lived in isolation for those 4 years. Her favorite moments were going on walks and hikes. Still, her adoption was complicated, as we were looking for a home where she could be the only dog.

Finally, the long-awaited day arrived! Irene has been adopted, and she is truly happy.
We’re surprised — she’s now living with another dog! Her temperament has softened, and we believe that being in a calm environment has helped her tremendously.

We love you, Irene. Despite the long wait, we never lost hope. 💖

Do you remember Miel?
She was rescued a few months ago and was very sick with cancer. After receiving chemotherapy treatment, she recovered, and we’re happy to announce that she has been adopted! 🥳😁

Miel is a very sweet and loving little dog. She now has a family who loves her and will give her all the care she deserves.

These happy stories remind us that our work is truly worthwhile, and they inspire us to continue helping more animals who need a second chance.

Even though we’ll miss you, we wish you all the happiness in the world. ❤️

PETUNIA
A few weeks ago, we rescued a very sick and malnourished female dog. We went looking for her puppies and fortunately, we were able to find them. However, she couldn't adapt to the shelter and constantly tried to escape.

We found out she used to live at a gas station, and the people who work there offered to take care of her and feed her. When she arrived, she was happy, and now she even has her own ID and uniform. The people there gave her a space to place her doghouse, and now she’ll always have food and water.

We’ll continue to take care of her health and visit her—we know she prefers to be free, and she’ll be well cared for.

We love you so much, Petunia! 🥰

We rescued a very sick and blind cat. He was lying in the street, too weak to get up. We took him to the vet, but unfortunately, it was no longer possible to do more. His life was fading, and we accompanied him in his final moments. 😔🙏

Sadly, there are many cases like this. There are so many animals on the streets that get sick and die alone. That’s why we will continue promoting sterilization; it’s the only way to control the overpopulation of stray animals.

We are happy because we were finally able to find the puppies of the dog we rescued a few days ago. After walking with the mother through the area, we finally arrived at the place where they were born, but they were no longer there. We continued searching the area until we found someone who had seen the puppies crying and took them to a warehouse. We brought the mother there, and she immediately fed and warmed them up. Now they are together again, and we will take care of all of them. 🥰

We found this female dog wandering desperately looking for food. She was dehydrated and very thin due to malnutrition. We gave her water and food. We don't know how far she had walked looking for food, and she looked very tired. We’re sure she left her puppies somewhere, and we searched for them without being able to find them; it was already nighttime. Today we took her to the shelter so she could rest, and tomorrow, when she's able to walk, we’ll take her to the area to see if she can lead us to where her puppies are. We’re praying that we can find them. 😔🙏
