Today, our doctors and staff had the honor of caring for K9 Marc for the final time. It was truly an honor and a privilege to care for such a courageous and devoted K9 during his time with the Mechanicsburg Police Department and afterwards during his retirement. We are grateful to have been entrusted with his care and to have been a part of his life. Marc was such a remarkable dog who gave so much of himself in service to his handler and family, his department, and his community. He has left a lasting impact on all those fortunate enough to know him.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Marc's handler, Officer Shutt, and the rest of Marc's family.

Rest easy, Marc. Thank you for your service. You will never be forgotten. 🐾💙🇱🇷

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has moved into Pennsylvania, and today's poor air quality can be dangerous for our pets. If you're feeling the impact of wildfire smoke, chances are your pets feel it, too.

The tiny particles in wildfire smoke (PM2.5) can irritate your pet's eyes and lungs and may even worsen heart and respiratory conditions. Puppies/kittens, senior dogs/cats, flat-faced dog breeds like Pugs/Bulldogs/Boston Terriers, and pets with preexisting heart or lung issues are especially at risk.

🐶 Protect your best friend today:
✅ Keep outdoor time to a minimum—just quick potty breaks.
✅ Skip walks, hikes, and outdoor play until air quality improves.
✅ Keep windows and doors closed and run your air conditioner if possible.
✅ Use a HEPA air purifier if you have one.
✅ After going outside, wipe your dog's paws and coat with a damp cloth to remove ash and smoke particles.

⚠️ Watch for warning signs:
• Persistent coughing, gagging, or wheezing
• Rapid, difficult, or noisy breathing
• Red, watery, or squinting eyes
• Lethargy, weakness, or unusual stumbling
If your dog develops any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

A little extra caution today can help keep your four-legged family members safe until the skies clear. ❤️🐕

Due to potential future raw material shortages, Royal Canin is changing the formulation of several of their veterinary diets by adding dried plain beet pulp instead of dried chicory root. The new formulations will be released throughout the rest of the year.

This will not affect the health benefits of the diets, but we do recommend a gradual change when the formulations are received to avoid gastrointestinal upset. The diets affected are:

Urinary SO + Hydrolyzed
Renal Support A
Renal Support S
Renal Support F
Renal Support + Hydrolyzed
Gastrointestinal Fiber Response

🚨 HEAT WAVE ALERT 🚨
With dangerously high temperatures in the forecast, it’s important to protect your pets from heat-related illness.

Prevention is key!

🌡️Keep outdoor time to a minimum. Walks should be limited to quick potty breaks, then head right back inside where it’s cool. Save longer walks and exercise for early morning or late evening when temperatures are much lower.
💧Always provide fresh, cool water.
🐾 Avoid hot pavement—it can burn paw pads. Remember, if the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws!
❄️Keep pets in cool, air-conditioned spaces
🚗NEVER leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even for a minute.

Signs of heat stroke include:
• Excessive panting
• Bright red or pale gums
• Drooling
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Stumbling or collapse
• Confusion or seizures

If you suspect your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area, begin cooling them with cool (not cold) water, and seek veterinary care immediately. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency, and early treatment can save lives.

🎆 July 4th is almost here! 🎆

While we may enjoy celebrating the Fourth of July, many of our furry friends find the loud noises and bright flashes frightening. If your pet has a history of anxiety during fireworks, don’t wait until the last minute to request medication. Our doctors’ schedules fill quickly, and some medications require an exam or a little time to find the right dose before the holiday.

Here are a few ways to help your pet stay calm:
🐾 Keep them indoors in a quiet, secure room.
🐾 Close windows and curtains to reduce noise and flashes.
🐾 Turn on the TV or a fan for background noise.
🐾 Make sure collars, microchip registration, and ID tags are up to date in case they become frightened and escape.
