WHAT'S THE SCOOP WITH THE P**P? Even the price of p**p has increased! After trying to hold back the cost of sending stool samples to my outside labaratory, the continued increased costs by my lab has caused me to raise the cost of a stool sample check to $44.00. It sounds like a lot of money to bring in a sample of your pet's p**p, for a f***l examination but it is SO IMPORTANT! It's one of those areas where I would just say, "trust me", because making sure that your dog or cat does not have intestinal parasites, is crucial to their health and feeling well, and will benefit the pet owner because there will be less occurence of diarrhea, weight loss, and vomiting, and who wants that? Most importantly, it is a public health issue, because certain parasite can be passed on to people, such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, giardia, and cryptosporidia. I take that part of my career seriously, to protect people against diseases that they can get from animals, such as Rabies, Salmonella, Ringworm, etc. Young children, and Seniors are the most vulnerable. Checking a f***l sample annually for protozoa parasites, and worms is the most important step in preventing parasites in animals. Also, using heartworm preventative such as our Interceptor Plus, or Selarid, will prevent many intestinal worms, but not single celled protozoa parasites such as coccidia, Giardia, etc. Bravecto and Credelio, our two Flea and Tick preventions, may also have some effect against worms. This is why we request a stool sample when you come in for an annual examination and vaccinations. And that's the scoop!
