Local cat advocates along with the Animal advocacy of Hook Line & Schooner (Hook, Line & Schooner Seafood restaurant), Raining Cats and Dogs Rescue, and Cole’s Kitty City, have arranged transport of 43 cats & kittens to a cat rescue in the Northeast. The cats will be leaving Cobb County Animal Services on Friday evening to start their journey north. Southern Journey Animal Rescue and Transport (Southern Journey Animal Rescue & Transport, Inc.) will be handling the transportation. There are unsung heroes in this effort who have asked to remain anonymous as this is more about the animals than them. We know them and we appreciate their steadfast advocacy.
This is a prime example of the need for shelters, rescues, animal advocacy, and the concerned public to come together to improve the outcomes of shelter animals. This transport, of which we hope there will be more in the future, will reduce the cat population at Cobb County Animal Services by 20%.
Those interested in assisting with this and future transports can drop off donations at Hook Line and Schooner located at 4600 W Village Way, Suite 3009, Smyrna. All funds will go to help the animals and transport. Online you may contribute at www.rainingcatsanddogsrescue.com. Additionally, to support Southern Journey, which coincidentally suffered a devastating fire last year where they lost their building and essential equipment, www.southernjourney.org .
We are hopeful this is the beginning of a lasting relationship whereby we can transport cats & kittens to an area with a higher demand, thus saving lives. I have received word if enough funding is raised another group could go out as early as next week. Please, these cats need your help.

Muffin is a sweet young tabby girl with a heart full of curiosity and a coat full of stripes. With her soft brown fur and classic tabby markings, she’s just as adorable as her name suggests. Estimated to be around 5 months old, Muffin is still growing and currently weighs about 5 pounds. She’s expected to reach a healthy adult weight of 8 to 10 pounds.

Muffin came to us as a lost girl on August 29, and despite her rough start, Muffin has quickly warmed up to gentle attention. Her classic brown tabby coat is paired with expressive eyes and a curious spirit — she's always exploring her surroundings or watching you from a cozy corner.
