Pelagornis was a giant prehistoric seabird that lived millions of years ago and is known for having one of the largest wingspans of any bird ever—reaching up to 6–7 meters (20–23 feet).
This incredible bird had a long beak lined with sharp, tooth-like projections called “pseudoteeth,” which helped it catch slippery prey like fish and squid.
Pelagornis spent most of its life soaring over ancient oceans, gliding effortlessly on air currents much like modern albatrosses.
With its enormous wings and unusual beak, Pelagornis is one of the most fascinating birds from Earth’s prehistoric skies.
