🐾 The Reveal Is In! 🐾

Yesterday, we shared an adorable puppy photo and asked you to guess the breed.

The answer is... GREYHOUND! 🐕✨

While our team at East-West Animal Hospital sees a variety of sighthound breeds, Greyhounds are actually pretty uncommon patients. In fact, Dr. Register jokes that having seen more than two Greyhounds during her veterinary career practically makes her a "Greyhound specialist!" 😄 (That's a little veterinary humor for you!)

One of the most fascinating things about Greyhounds is how dramatically they change as they grow. Those long legs, sleek bodies, and elegant features aren't always obvious when they're tiny puppies!

🐶 Myth or Fact? A cold, wet nose means a healthy pet, and a warm nose means they're sick.
❌ Myth!
A pet's nose temperature can change throughout the day for many normal reasons, including sleeping, exercise, weather, and hydration. A warm nose alone doesn't necessarily mean your pet is ill!
At East-West Animal Hospital, we look at the whole patient when assessing health. Interestingly, nose temperature and moisture can also be considered in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) as one piece of a much larger picture.
If you're concerned about your pet's health, it's always best to look for other signs such as changes in appetite, energy level, behavior, or comfort.
Have you ever heard the "hot nose means sick" myth? Let us know in the comments!

We had some unexpected visitors stop by the clinic today!

A group of local peacocks decided to swing by and check out the office, including a beautiful white juvenile that definitely stole the show. ✨

We politely explained that our doctors primarily see dogs and cats, but we'd be happy to point them toward a veterinarian who treats birds. Fortunately, they were very understanding and caused no trouble during their visit. 😄

We're not sure if they were looking for medical care, a treat, or if they just wanted to admire the landscaping, but they certainly brightened our day!

🚨 June is National Pet Preparedness Month! 🐾
Emergencies can happen when we least expect them, and our pets depend on us to be ready. This month is the perfect time to create or update your pet's emergency preparedness plan (especially with Hurricane Season!).
A pet emergency kit should include:
✔️ Food and water
✔️ Medications
✔️ Medical records
✔️ Leash or carrier
✔️ First aid supplies
✔️ Comfort items like favorite toys or blankets
Bonus Points if you ensure your pet's microchip and ID tag information is current!

Being prepared can make a stressful situation much easier for both you and your pet. ❤
