✨ Meet Ziggy! ✨

Waking up from anesthesia can be confusing for anyone — especially when you wake up missing a leg. But Ziggy handled it like an absolute champ! 💪🐾

This big, goofy boy had an unfortunate run-in with a fan. He thought he was Superman and could fly right over it… but turns out he’s just a little too clumsy for takeoff. ✈️💨 Unfortunately, his leg wasn’t healing properly, so our surgeon, Dr. O’Donnell, decided the best option for Ziggy was an amputation.

The good news? Dogs do amazingly well on three legs — and Ziggy is already proving just how resilient he is. 🐶❤️

He’s got some incredible parents by his side to help him through recovery (and hopefully to keep him grounded — no more flying attempts for this guy!).

Join us in wishing Ziggy a smooth, happy, and speedy recovery! 💕🐾 PS we hope his mom writes a book about him too! His brother Harvey has one!

🚨 Emergency Case: Mango & the Vitamin Gummies 🚨

Sweet Mango’s quick-thinking owners saved his life when he got into some vitamin gummies. They checked the label, saw xylitol, and rushed him straight to our ER. 💔🐾

👉 Why xylitol is so dangerous:

Causes a sudden release of insulin, leading to dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Can trigger weakness, vomiting, seizures, collapse, or even death within hours.
May cause liver failure, sometimes days later.

⚠️ Xylitol ingestion is ALWAYS a medical emergency—don’t wait, get to the vet immediately.

At the hospital, dogs like Mango receive:

IV fluids with sugar support to stabilize blood sugar.
Liver protectants & medications to reduce further damage.
Bloodwork & monitoring for 12–24+ hours to catch delayed effects.

🔎 Common items that contain xylitol (often hidden):

Sugar-free gum & mint
Gummy vitamins & supplements
Toothpaste & mouthwash
Some peanut butters
Sugar-free baked goods, syrups, and protein bars

❤️ Thanks to her family’s fast action and our ER team, Mango is on the road to recovery.

We at Evolution Veterinary Specialists are here 24/7 if your pet faces an emergency. We understand accidents happen and are ready to help.

Why It’s Important to Keep Your Dog’s Nails Trimmed 🐾

Keeping your dog’s nails short and healthy is more than just cosmetic—it’s an important part of their overall well-being.

✅ Comfort & Mobility
Overgrown nails can make it uncomfortable for your dog to walk or run. Long nails change the way their paws hit the ground, which can put extra stress on joints and affect posture.

✅ Prevents Pain & Injury
Nails that are too long can split, crack, or even curl into the paw pads—causing painful injuries and infections.

✅ Protects Your Home & Family
Trimmed nails mean less accidental scratching on floors, furniture, or even you when your pup jumps up to say hello.

✅ Supports Joint Health
When nails are kept at the proper length, dogs are able to move naturally. This helps prevent long-term strain on their feet, legs, and hips.

👉 Tip: Regular trims (every 3–4 weeks for most dogs) keep nails at a healthy length and help your pup get comfortable with paw handling.

🐾 The “cone of shame” (as it’s jokingly called) may not be your dog’s favorite accessory—and let’s be honest, as pet parents we don’t love it either—but it’s SO important for their healing! 🐶✨

If your vet says keep the cone on, keep the cone on. 💯 Licking, chewing, or scratching at wounds and incisions can:

⚠️ Delay healing

⚠️ Cause painful infections

⚠️ Damage splints or even interfere with bone healing

It may feel tough in the moment, but a few days of cone life means a faster, safer recovery for your pup. 💕

👉 Just keep the cone on! Your dog will thank you later.

Why Is Lab Work So Important for Your Pet?

Lab tests are more than just numbers — they’re a key part of keeping your pet healthy and happy! Here’s why routine lab work matters:

🔍 Catch Problems Early
Blood, urine, and f***l tests can detect infections, organ issues, diabetes, and parasites — often before symptoms appear.

📊 Manage Chronic Conditions
Pets with ongoing illnesses like kidney disease or diabetes need regular testing to monitor progress and fine-tune treatment.

🛑 Pre-Surgery Safety
Before anesthesia, lab work checks that your pet’s organs are ready to handle it safely.

📈 Know What’s “Normal”
Baseline tests when your pet is healthy give your vet something to compare against if they get sick later.

💊 Monitor Medication Effects
Some meds can stress organs over time — lab work helps us catch changes early and adjust as needed.

🧬 Lab work = peace of mind.
Don’t wait for symptoms. Stay ahead of the curve with regular testing!
