Letting him be a happy bouncy puppy, because we’re allowed to have fun when training. Bear likes to grab the leash and play with it when his owner walks him, so here I’m not asking him to be in a perfect heel, he doesn’t need that at this age. This was shortly after we entered the store, he still had some energy to burn. He was rewarded for not pulling and for not grabbing and yanking the leash, he learned how to turn off the pressure from the slip leash(no bite and yank=no leash pressure)

With this being our second meeting and first time going out into public just the two of us, I put no expectations out there for him. I don’t expect him to be perfect on the first try, I also want them to use their brains and try to figure it out with just a little guidance from me. Let your puppy sniff and be curious about the world, these are all new and sometimes weird things to them.

Sessions with puppies should be low pressure, make it fun and exciting! The goal is for the dog to want to engage with the handler, and to look to the handler for guidance when they’re unsure of something.

Welcome to Pawsitive Pathways, Bear! 🐻💙

Bear is a Labrador/Australian Shepherd mix, and he is currently enrolled in my ✨Service Dog Program✨, which is a 1-2 year long journey!
We are in Phase 1 of the program, which focuses on confidence building, positive exposure and socialization as well as foundation work for basic obedience skills. Today was our second time meeting, and we took a trip to Lowe’s. We people watched outside the entrance until we were ready to enter. Inside, we worked on our leash skills, greeted a few people appropriately, and took in all the sights, smells and noises. I always end a session on a positive note, so once Bear was starting to lose some interest, we called it there and headed out! He was zonked out before we even left the parking lot, I call that a successful session 🥰

My dog Senna has been recuperating from surgery and as a result, she has been staying with me at the cabin to ensure I can closely monitor her progress. The other animals are somewhat unsure about this new large dog, but thus far, everyone has coexisted peacefully!
We will be here for an additional five days, but I will be making a trip back to Herkimer County on Friday for a training client and can accommodate mobile nail trims 🥳

My route will include Brookfield, the entire valley, as well as Little Falls, Middleville, and Dolgeville areas.

To schedule an appointment, please send a direct message or text 💅🏼🗓️

To simplify the process for everyone involved, I have created several forms for individuals interested in accessing a specific service. These forms will be pinned to my page so they are easy to find!
They will be MANDATORY for anyone who is not an existing client or for those seeking a service they have not previously received. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation! 🫶🏼❣️

Anything your dog finds rewarding and exciting, one of my dogs prefers toys over food rewards and vice versa with my other dog! Train the dog in front of you👏🏼

A common misconception is that rewards only mean treats ❌ 🧀

Food is usually an easy motivator because all dogs eat 😂 therefore theoretically all dogs should be motivated by food (but we know stress, type of food, hunger etc. etc. can influence food motivation).

Food rewards are also convenient because they allow for fast and easy positive reinforcement, for instance, I could give 10 food rewards faster than one game of tug.

However, the most effective reward is what your dog enjoys the most. And that is unique to the dog in front of you.

Stay warm and toasty these next few days! 🥶

My last overnight with this crew until next time! 🫶🏼🥰

I truly enjoy my time spent with them, they’re all so sweet and help me not miss my own animals as much, though I can’t wait to be back home with my crazies 😆

Bandit always does the happy spins when I come back from a work shift, so I had to capture it on video, it warms my heart 🥺🫶🏼
Bandit will be 13 this year and his sister Penny will be 15 💗
