šŸ–¤šŸ¾ At Just 10 Months Old, Gemma Is Homeless.

This beautiful, 10-month-old, 77-pound sweet pup was simply no longer wanted by her owner.

We see it often, puppies grow—as they should.
She didn’t stop being lovable. She just stopped being little.

Gemma is incredibly friendly and eager to make new friends. She greets people with kind eyes and a hopeful heart.

At 77 pounds, she’s a big girl—but she’s also just a big puppy. She’ll need a family willing to continue her training, give her structure and most importantly, love her for a lifetime.

She deserves more than being someone’s temporary dog. She deserves to be someone’s forever dog.

Please share to help Gemma find the forever family she’s always deserved. 🐾

šŸ¾ā¤ļø Gunner Is Back… Through Absolutely No Fault of His Own! ā¤ļøšŸ¾

Gunner first arrived at our shelter in May as an unclaimed stray. He was adopted for a short time… and then returned.

Our best guess? They liked the idea of having a dog more than actually having one. šŸ¤” (It happens.)

The good news? Gunner hasn’t let it dampen his spirits one bit.

This young beagle weighs about 25 pounds of floppy ears, wagging tail and pure sweetness. From everything we’ve seen, he’s the kind of dog who wants to be everyone’s friend. He’s affectionate, happy and seems like he’d fit into just about any loving home.

If you’ve ever loved a beagle, you know they’re experts at stealing hearts. Now Gunner is hoping someone will steal his—and keep it forever.

He’s already packed and ready this time… we just need someone who’s in it for the long haul. ā¤ļø

Please come meet Gunner. Share his post. Tell your beagle-loving friends. Let’s make sure his next trip home is his last. šŸ¶šŸ”

šŸ’” Rudy doesn’t understand why his world just changed. šŸ’”

Today, through tears and heartbreak, Rudy’s family made one of the hardest decisions they’ve ever had to make.
They loved him enough to do what they felt they had to, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less.

Now this sweet, confused boy is sitting in a kennel, wondering where the people he loves went.
The shelter is scary-he’s overwhelmed, uncomfortable and desperately needs someone to see him for the wonderful boy he is.

🐾 Rudy
šŸ¤Ž 4 years old
āš–ļø 63 pounds

Rudy has worked on agility with his owner and is a smart, active boy who enjoys learning and being with his people. He’s never lived with other dogs or cats, but based on what we know, he would likely do well with proper introductions-he is very friendly.😃

***Open tomorrow at 9 to meet Rudy and all our adoptable’s.
āœ… Yes-the sign says closed-but we are here and would love to see you if you’re interested in adopting!šŸ™

Many of you remember Francine. ā¤ļø

She was the heart behind so many of our dogs’ adoption flyers, handmade sweaters and adorable outings that helped countless dogs find loving homes.

Francine is now volunteering at shelters in the South, where the summer heat is relentless.
🄵Temperatures are consistently over 100°, and ALL of the dogs spend their days outdoors.
She’s trying to get cooling gel mats into as many kennels as possible so these dogs have a cool place to lie down and get some relief.

šŸ“£šŸ“£šŸ“£This is where our incredible community comes in.

Time and time again, you’ve shown what can happen when animal lovers come together. We’ve witnessed the power of this page, the generosity of our followers, and what a caring community can accomplish. Let’s use that same power to help dogs who desperately need it.šŸ¶šŸ‘

This is about one shelter helping another.
It isn’t about county lines or state lines.
It’s about animals-when they need us, we show up.

šŸ™ If you’re able to purchase a cooling mat, we’d be so grateful. If you’re not, sharing this post could help it reach someone who can.

🄳 Let’s show Francine and these deserving pups that the Herkimer County Humane Society family doesn’t stop caring just because the dogs are a thousand miles away.

Do you have a Dot who needs a companion? Because we have animaniacs who need a family!

Yakko and Wakko are approximately 4–6 months old and came to us as unclaimed strays. While no one came looking for them, we’re determined to find them the forever family they truly deserve.

Before you fall in love with those sweet faces, remember this:

A puppy isn’t a temporary adventure—it’s a 10–15 year commitment. They will need patience, training, exercise, veterinary care, and, most importantly, a family that will love them through every stage of life.

If you’re ready for muddy paws, goofy zoomies, unconditional love and a best friend who’ll never judge your bad days, one of these boys might be the perfect fit.

🐾 They don’t have to be adopted together—but we know they’d each love a family of their own.

Come meet Yakko and Wakko during our open hours. Your newest family is waiting with a wagging tail. ā¤ļø

***UPDATE***
His name is Tank, he’s 7 years old and his owners didn’t come for him.
Thanks to the power of social media.

Bo went grocery shopping… but he wasn’t looking for food. He was looking for someone to help him. šŸ›’ā¤ļø

This handsome 4-year-old wandered into a local grocery store all by himself, as if he knew people would be there. We hoped someone would come looking for him.

No one ever did.

Now Bo is searching for something much more important than his owner… he’s searching for a family that will never let him down again.

It’s impossible not to love this guy. Bo is a total staff favorite with a goofy, friendly personality that wins over everyone he meets. He’s good with cats, does well with other dogs and would love a home where he can finally relax and know he’s safe. (If you already have a dog, a meet-and-greet is required.)

Let’s make sure the next door he walks through is the one that leads him home. šŸ¾šŸ”

Bo will be waiting to meet you starting at noon tomorrow! Yes, we’re open. šŸŽ†
The cats and dogs are here, we’re here, and we’d love to help you find your new best friend. Come say hello! ā¤ļøšŸ¾

šŸ’” How is Dude still here?

This little guy already escaped death once.

Dude came to us from a rural animal control facility after the caretaker saw his worth and requested us to give him a chance. He was out of time. Unclaimed. Facing euthanasia simply because there wasn’t enough space.

We thought once people met him, he’d be one of the first to leave.

Instead… he’s still here.

Every morning Dude wakes up with a wagging tail, a goofy smile, and hope that today will be the day someone finally notices him. Every evening he goes back to his kennel, wondering why everyone else keeps getting chosen.

He’s only about 1–2 years old, petite in size, appears to be cat-friendly, loves people, and has the kind of happy, easygoing personality that makes you fall in love. He doesn’t ask for much—just someone to love him forever.

Dude survived the day he wasn’t supposed to.

Please don’t let him spend the rest of his second chance waiting behind kennel doors.

šŸ“£ And while we’re celebrating that Dude got a second chance, let’s remember that not every animal does. Shelters and animal control facilities across our region continue to face heartbreaking overcrowding. Healthy, loving dogs and cats are still losing their lives simply because there are more unwanted animals than there are available homes.

Thank you to everyone who adopts, spays and neuters, keeps their pets for life, and helps be part of the solution. Those choices don’t just make a difference—they save lives.

šŸ’” This is our 4th post for Vegas.

And something has changed.

When Vegas first arrived in May, he craved attention.
He begged anyone walking by to notice him.

Now…
He barely even looks up.
As we pass his kennel, there’s no excitement anymore.
No hopeful tail wag.
No desperate plea for attention. He just sits there.

That’s the part that scares us.
He’s not adjusting.
He’s giving up.

Vegas is only 2 years old, and through absolutely no fault of his own, he lost the only home he’d ever known.

Adopted from a local rescue as a puppy, he should have been set for life. But after his owner moved, Vegas wasn’t welcome in the new home. When she reached back out to the rescue, they simply didn’t have an available foster. Instead, Vegas arrived unexpectedly at our door because his owner was in a hurry.

Since then, he’s been waiting.
Waiting for someone to choose him.
Waiting for someone to tell him he belongs again.
Waiting… and slowly losing hope.

Every photo we take captures the same thing—that sadness in his eyes that you just can’t ignore. We wish the camera could also show how quiet he’s become. How he no longer asks us to stop. How he watches families walk past without even trying anymore.

No dog should shut down like this.

We know rescues and shelters everywhere are overwhelmed, and we’re grateful for every rescue, foster and volunteer working tirelessly to save lives.

But this is also why we say it over and over:

Our pets are a lifetime commitment. When life changes, they still depend on us.

Vegas deserved stability.
He still does.
Please… if you’ve been thinking about adopting, come meet him. Share his story.
Tell someone about him.

Because after three posts…

Vegas still hasn’t had a single visitor. šŸ’”

Let’s make sure this isn’t the post where he disappears into the background.

🐶😽 Meet and greet required with any dogs in the home, and we’re happy to show you his interaction with kitties during your visit.

Yes, his name is Daddy.
No, we didn’t name him. šŸ˜…

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…

Daddy is a little over a year old, weighs about 15 pounds, and is looking for the right person to give him the fresh start he deserves.

He was originally surrendered because his family was moving and couldn’t take him along. He found a home in May but has since been returned after having some disagreements with the other dog in the household.

Daddy is housebroken, walks nicely on a leash, does well with both dogs and cats and would likely do well with respectful children who understand that little dogs sometimes need a little extra patience.

He’s a bit shy when meeting new people.
Daddy will thrive with someone who can provide calm, consistent guidance and clear boundaries while giving him the time he needs to settle in. Like many dogs, he does best when he knows what’s expected of him.

If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who just wants to belong, Daddy may be your perfect match. Come meet him—you might just fall in love with more than his unforgettable name. ā¤ļø

Why is Skye invisible?šŸ’”

Every day, people walk through our shelter.
Every day, they stop at kennels, ask questions, fall in love…and every day, they walk right past Skye.

No one asks to meet her.
No one takes her outside.
No one gives her a chance.
We honestly don’t understand why.

She’s only a year old.
Beautiful.
Smart.
Full of life.
And despite coming heartbreakingly close to losing that life before she ever made it here, she still looks at every person with hopeful eyes.

Skye is also another heartbreaking reminder to be careful when giving your pets away. She was rehomed by her ā€œfamilyā€ only for her new owners to schedule an appointment to have her euthanized because she wasn’t getting along with the resident dog.
Instead of working through a manageable situation, they chose to end her life.
Thankfully, the veterinary team recognized that Skye deserved a chance and called us instead. Because of them, she’s still here—waiting for the family who will truly make a lifetime commitment.

Hope that today might finally be her day.
Instead, she watches another family leave with another dog.

🐾 Meet & greet required with resident dogs.
🐾 We can show cat reactions during your visit.

Come meet Skye. We have a feeling the right person simply hasn’t looked into her eyes yet. ā¤ļø
