Brek-n-Ridge Farm Welcomes Phoebe Schmalzried as New Barn Manager and Trainer
HARBOR SPRINGS, MI — For November 1, 2026 — Brek-n-Ridge Farm is thrilled to announce and welcome Phoebe Schmalzried as our new barn manager and trainer. Phoebe brings a variety of experience and is excited to join the team while continuing to foster education for owners and students in line with their goals. Her vast background makes her lessons versatile and practical, meeting horses and riders exactly where they are each day. Lessons range from groundwork to under saddle, in both English and Western disciplines.
Brek-n-Ridge Farm and Phoebe welcomes all horses and riders, from beginners looking to understand the basics to intermediate and advanced students looking to refine movements or problem-solve with their own horses, all while promoting a relaxed and balanced learning environment at Brek-n-Ridge Farm for both horses and riders.
Phoebe’s Horse Training Philosophy
Phoebe’s priority is finding a horse’s mental and physical balance and developing both horses’ and riders’ understanding and communication. She places an emphasis on putting a strong foundation onto a horse from the ground up, to take your horse to any level or discipline you choose.
Background and Education
Phoebe has ridden with many clinicians over the past few years, including Buck Brannaman, Kip Fladland and Alicia Landman, among others. While her roots and current focus are natural horsemanship based, she has dedicated time to other disciplines such as hunter/jumpers, and polo giving her a well rounded background.
Haul-Ins, Lessons and Working Student Opportunities
Phoebe is available by phone or in person to work with adults, parents or students to build schedules suitable for fall and winter. School horses are available for both adults and students, or haul-in options available for owners.
Barn Owner and instructor Karin Reid Offield said, “I am grateful for Phoebe’s enthusiasm, good nature and willingness to come aboard the Brek-n-Ridge team. It’s going to be a fun season, with lots of horsemanship happening in this amazing Northern Michigan stable. We are so lucky. Our thanks to Phoebe for taking on this job. It’s very exciting.”
“I’d like to share with all of you that the stable can be a wonderful leadership school. In our society, women and men are not always encouraged to participate, speak out or be in charge. In the barn, these qualities are practiced on a daily basis, perfectly matched with an educated compassion for the horses. It is no coincidence that many of the great business leaders in the world have an equestrian background.”
Stay tuned for more updates soon.
