Happy Mother’s Day!

Today, we’re celebrating all the moms out there — including the pet moms, foster moms, and animal lovers who help care for pets in our community every day. 💛

In the veterinary world, “motherhood” can sometimes also mean unexpected or unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering your pets is one of the most important ways you can help prevent additional homeless animals in our community while also supporting your pet’s long-term health.

The Little Traverse Bay Veterinary Clinic is accepting new clients! Schedule an appointment for spay or neuter services today. To learn more about our low-cost spay/neuter program, visit ltbhs.org/lowcost or call 231-622-6363.

Fun Fact Friday! 🐾🌷

Did you know your pets can get “spring fever” too? ☀️🐶🐱
As the days get longer and temperatures warm up, many dogs and cats become more playful, energetic, and active — just like us!

Spring also kicks off shedding season for many pets, so if you’re noticing a little extra fur around the house… you’re not alone! 🐕💨 Spring can also trigger seasonal allergies in pets. If you notice excessive shedding, itching, redness, hair loss, licking/chewing at paws, or irritated skin, it may be time for a check-up. 🌼

💐Thinking of getting flowers for a mom in your life this Mother’s Day? Before bringing home a bouquet, be sure to check which flowers are pet safe! 🌷

Many popular flowers and plants can be toxic to pets if ingested. Lilies, tulips, daffodils, and more may cause serious illness — especially for curious cats and dogs. Check out this helpful guide to pet-safe flowers before you shop (from our friends at the ASPCA).

If your pet does ingest a potentially toxic plant or flower, contact the Animal Poison Control Hotline or your veterinarian immediately. The Little Traverse Bay Veterinary Clinic can be reached at 231-622-6363. We are accepting new clients!

Did you know some common plants can be dangerous for pets?

Many plants found in homes and gardens—like lilies, sago palms, and certain houseplants—can be toxic to dogs and cats if ingested. Curious pets love to explore with their noses (and sometimes their mouths), so it’s important to know which plants may pose a risk.

If you think your pet may have eaten a poisonous plant, contact your veterinarian right away or call the Pet Poison Helpline. Quick action can make a big difference.

🐾 Tip Tuesday!

Your pet’s nose can tell you a lot about their health. While it doesn’t always have to be wet to be normal, changes like discharge, sores, or frequent sneezing can sometimes signal allergies, infections, or other concerns.

Keeping an eye on small changes like these is a great way to stay on top of your pet’s health—and when something seems off, it’s always best to check in with your vet.

Our team at Little Traverse Bay Veterinary Clinic is here to help keep your pets happy and healthy with preventive care, diagnostics, and personalized treatment.
