When her long-time senior clients could no longer get to the hospital, Dawn Berry, hospital manager at VCA Lafayette Animal Hospital, partnered with a local Meals on Wheels program to bring the hospital to them.

And that's when she noticed something concerning. Some seniors, faced with financial challenges, chose to feed their pets rather than feed themselves. She knew she had to do something.

Learn how Dawn is giving back to pets and people in her community -- and creating a better world for pets.

Join VCA and our community of clients in helping pets find and remain in loving homes this holiday seasons by making a donation to VCA Charities online or in VCA hospitals. Every dollar makes a big difference and supports VCA Charities grant programs that provide veterinary care, adoption readiness, disaster relief and more for pets in our community and across the country.

Donate at your local hospital and have your name—or that of a loved one—displayed on our wall of gratitude!

The kitten was only eight weeks old -- and weighed only one pound -- when doctors discovered his chest bones were not forming correctly, restricting his heart and lung functions.

It was a risky procedure. But today, that kitten is a happy, healthy cat known as "Captain Banz." His grateful owners renamed him for the veterinarian who they could never thank enough.

A cancer diagnosis ended her career. But thanks to the cancer care experts at VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists, Abba's journey had just begun.

To close out National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, we recognize the Hawaiian Humane Society.

These Hometown Heroes are dedicated to promoting the human-animal bond and humane treatment of all animals. During difficult times, they help owners find alternatives to surrendering their pets, by providing eviction-related resources, a pet food bank, pet-friendly housing information and suggestions for rehoming if need be.

They also partner with Good Pup to offer 1-on-1 behavioral training for pets who need extra help. VCA is proud to support this amazing organization with our Healthy Start Program for adopters, which includes a free wellness exam with a VCA veterinarian.

VCA Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist Lori Prantil, MPS, DVM, DACVN talks about the importance of nutrition for the healthy growth of your new puppy and what to look for in food labelling.

What should I feed my senior pet?

VCA Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist Lori Prantil, MPS, DVM, DACVN explains that different species and breeds age differently and have different longevity expectations, so there is no defined age that qualifies a pet as senior.

There is no specific dietary recommendation for senior pets. Dr. Prantil recommends regular lab work and examinations so your veterinarian can pick up on any changes in your pet's health and make recommendations for dietary changes if necessary.

This past weekend a team of our VCA doctors helped the Humane Society of Southwest Washington with their spay and neuter procedures. This partnership not only helps the shelter animals get the medical care they need to be placed in homes faster, but also helps our doctors gain valuable surgical experience. We had four doctors participate in the clinic along with four outstanding members of our veterinary technician team. At VCA we put the future of veterinary medicine first and constantly strive to improve our skills and be the best possible medical team for you and your pets. Great job all!

I’m extremely upset with the “care” our cat received today. We called and let them know the situation and that we believed our cat needed to be put down. We prepaid for a second opinion, euthanasia and drove him in to be seen. When we got there, you only performed a physical exam, said he didn’t look good and recommended we go to an emergency vet instead. This should have been recommended in the first place if you were incapable of performing further testing. Not only this but when our cat was brought out, we were told there was a little p*e in his carrier. As we got to the emergency vet, I opened the carrier and his ENTIRE stomach is SOAKED with p*e! We appreciate that you refunded the money for the euthanasia.. but you couldn’t have at least put a towel in the bottom of the carrier?! You wasted our money, our time and put our cat through more un necessary stress. I’m absolutely appalled that you would let our cat literally be soaked in his own p*e and not even do the common courtesy of providing a towel to make him more comfortable. How you can be in the business of animal care and treat an animal this way is beyond me.
Love you all! So many years! Awesome Veterinarians and staff! Not just staff but friends developed over the years because they all really CARE!
Your federalway VCA location is TRASH. They just made me wait 2 hours with a puppy that has something in it's throat because they are understaffed and told me they could help me then told me I was going to pay 300+ $ to tell me to go to an emergency vet because they couldn't help. After confirming with me they could. They are Literally just trying to milk for $ I am posting this on EVERY group I belong to. The rooms were filthy hair and water clumped in the corner, treating people who have used the location for years like pests particularly the chick with glasses and blue green hair. The original lady was very helpful and kind that i checked in with and the vet tech. The VET didn't even look or touch her neck throat open her mouth anything she came in for all of 3 minutes and left. When it was vets for less we came in and actually got help they seemed ro care for real. This is sickening.
The new groomer did such an amazing job on my dog! Took all day but was totally worth it. Probably the best haircut Fibi has ever had. Thank you for the new dew🐩
Thanks Dr. Tanaka and crew for taking such Good care of me.It was PURRFECT,just like me relaxing in front of my fireplace.
Shout out to VCA Silverlake! Thank you for treating our boy Vader. I am confident he is on the road to recovery. They got is in on short notice. Thanks!
