When temperatures rise, the pavement heats up FAST—and it can be dangerous for your pet’s paws. 🐶🐱🔥

If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws! A quick walk on hot blacktop can cause painful burns in just seconds.

Try these simple tips to keep them safe:
✔️ Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
✔️ Stick to grass or shaded areas when possible
✔️ Do a quick “hand test” on pavement before heading out
✔️ Consider protective booties for extra safety

There's nothing quite like exploring the great outdoors with your four-legged adventure buddy! 🐶🌲 Whether you're heading to the campground, hiking the trails, or relaxing by the campfire, a little preparation can help keep your pet safe and happy.
Before you hit the trail, make sure your pet is up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, pack plenty of water, and be prepared for the summer heat. ☀️💧

Today we are proud to celebrate Dr. Tony Schumann's 32-year anniversary at Erlanger Veterinary Hospital! 💙

Dr. Schumann's journey with EVH began long before he became a veterinarian. As a teenager, he started here as kennel help, where he was mentored by Dr. Hastings and developed a passion for veterinary medicine. After graduating from veterinary school, he returned to Erlanger Veterinary Hospital—and the rest is history.

Over the years, Dr. Schumann has become known for his exceptional surgical skills, dedication to his patients, and commitment to providing the highest level of care. His knowledge and experience have earned the trust of pet owners not only in Northern Kentucky, but from across the country, with many clients traveling long distances for him to perform specialized surgeries on their beloved pets.

🥵🐾 Heat Stroke Can Happen Fast! 🐾🥵

When temperatures soar, prevention is the best protection. Keeping your pet cool, hydrated, and out of the heat is far easier than treating heat stroke once it starts. ☀️💧

If you think your pet may be overheating:
❄️ Move them to a cool, air-conditioned area immediately
💧 Offer fresh water if they are able to drink
📞 Call us right away at (859) 908-1100

🥵☀️ We wanted summer weather... but maybe not THIS much summer weather! ☀️🥵

With temperatures climbing, it's more important than ever to keep a close eye on your pets. 🐶🐱 Heat stroke can happen quickly, and pets can go from seeming perfectly fine to experiencing a medical emergency in a short amount of time.

💧 Always provide plenty of fresh water
🌳 Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
❄️ Make sure your pets have access to shade and air conditioning
🐾 Remember that pavement and blacktop can become dangerously hot

If your pet is excessively panting, drooling, lethargic, vomiting, or having trouble breathing, seek veterinary attention immediately.
