Update: ARCHIE IS SAFE. He was just tagged and we are ironing out transportation to get Archie the training and help that he needs. I cannot thank you enough for sharing his story!

Archie Needs a Hero 🐾

A couple of months ago, we took in a pair of Golden Retrievers after their owner unexpectedly passed away. Both were quickly adopted into loving homes. But today, we’re heartbroken to share that one of them, sweet Archie, has made his way back to us.
Update: Archie has been tagged and is preparing to transport to get the training and help that he needs! He is safe. Thank you to everyone who shared.

Archie is a gentle, affectionate soul who loves kids and gets along beautifully with other dogs. He truly is a lover through and through. But despite his sweet nature, Archie hasn’t found his forever home just yet—and we now know a little more about why.

Archie suffers from severe separation anxiety. When left alone, he gets very distressed. This can lead to accidents in the house and chewing on things he shouldn’t. He needs to be kenneled when you're away—but even that might not prevent a nervous mess. His anxiety is real and raw, and it breaks our hearts.

He’s not being "bad"—he’s scared. After losing his person, being in and out of shelters (first KHS, then with us, and now back again), it’s no wonder he’s struggling. Wouldn’t you, too?

Archie needs patience, understanding, and someone willing to help him heal. He is not a lost cause. There are amazing dog trainers and veterinarians who can help guide you through managing separation anxiety. With love and consistency, Archie can absolutely improve.

Please help us find Archie the home he deserves. Share his story, tell your friends, and if you or someone you know has room in your heart and home, reach out.

Let’s make sure Archie never has to come back to a shelter again. ā¤ļø

UPDATE: This sweet baby made her way back to her owners! Thanks for sharing everyone!

Meet Our Sweet Girl!
This adorable pup is about 8 weeks old and believed to be a German Shepherd mix. She’s full of puppy energy and completely eager to learn!

Right now, she’s working on all the basics: potty training, kennel training, learning to sit, and figuring out that toys—not shoes or furniture—are for chewing. She’s smart, curious, and ready for any lesson you want to teach her.

She follows me like a shadow, always looking to explore and get into a little mischief—just like any healthy, happy puppy should. She’s 100% ready to become someone’s best companion ever.

But remember: a puppy is a commitment.
They need training, patience, love, cleaning up after, feeding, and care for the next 10–15 years. If that feels overwhelming, we encourage you to consider adopting an older dog who may be a better match.

However, if you're ready for the joy and the responsibility of raising a pup, come meet this sweet girl. She’s waiting to find her forever family

COURTESY POST – MISSING DOG

One of our dear friends, Charlie, who was with us back in February, is missing! He’s been gone for about 4 days, and his loving family is heartbroken.

Charlie lives near Burns, KS, and his parents believe the recent storm may have scared him off—or someone may have thought he was lost and picked him up. Either way, they just want their sweet boy back home.

Charlie is a unique mix—he looks like a German Shepherd but has short Basset Hound legs. He’s about 11 years old, takes arthritis medication, and needs to be home ASAP.

If you know Charlie, you know he’s a LOVER. He’ll happily trot up to anyone and wouldn’t hesitate to hop into a vehicle with a friendly face.

Please keep an eye out and share this post to help bring Charlie home. His momma misses him dearly. šŸ’”

If you’ve seen Charlie or have any information, please reach out immediately!

Hey y’all!
Last month, we responded to a situation in El Dorado where a house had been overrun with cats—reports estimated anywhere from 19 to 50 inside! When all was said and done, we think the final number landed around 22 (give or take a few).

Thanks to the incredible support of Lawrence Humane Society, we were able to transfer some of those cats into their care. And we’re thrilled to share that one of those cats has already been adopted! We absolutely love seeing these kinds of happy endings.

If you’ve adopted a pet from us, we’d love to hear how they’re doing—your stories keep us going.

Thank you, El Dorado, for your continued support over the years. Here’s to many more success stories ahead!

(This lucky gal made her way to the Cat Cafe in Lawrence and was adopted on her first day there! From Cat Hoard to Furever home..)

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

🐾 Attention Golden Retriever Lovers! 🐾

Meet Nova, a sweet golden girl who’s looking for her forever home! šŸ’›

Nova is mostly house-trained and just needs someone with a little patience and consistency to help her finish the job. She can be a bit nervous at first, but she warms up and shows signs of being both dog- and cat-friendly.

She was sadly surrendered because she was chasing cars and her previous owner was worried for her safety. They also realized they weren’t quite ready for the energy and commitment a young dog needs.

But here’s the surprise — Nova doesn’t act like a wild puppy at all. She’s a total office/couch potato! She happily lies at your feet while you work, occasionally perking up to ask for a few gentle pets.

The only quirk? She gets a bit car sick during rides, so she's in need of someone who won't get upset by this.

If you're looking for a calm, loving companion with golden charm, Nova might just be your perfect match.

Reach out if you're interested in meeting her!
Shelter hours are Mon-Thurs 9am-4pm and Friday 9am-12pm.

Don't wait on this gem! Come meet her today.

UPDATE: Ratchet needs a new home. If you have room in your home and your heart for this guy, please come see him. He is about 6 years old. Friendly with dogs and so far has done great with kennel manners here. For 6 years, he was an outdoor dog so he isn't sure what "house trained" means yet. He can clear a 4ft fence. So, he can't be outside with a standard chain-link fence and expect to stay home. Please keep this in mind if you are interested in adopting him!

This guy was picked up a couple days ago and I was expecting a phone call right away from his owner. He is very well groomed, has a collar on, and is the perfect gentleman. I am hopeful his owner just doesn't realize this is where he ended up! Please share so we can get this guy home!

UPDATE: Minnie has been adopted! This sweet girl hit the jackpot! She gets to be the only fur baby in the home and she couldn't be happier!

🐾 Meet Minnie – A Scared Girl in Need of a Second Chance šŸ’”

This is Minnie. She’s just 1.5 years old and came to us after being a little too aggressive with her dog housemate. While she may not be ready for a multi-dog household right now, Minnie has so much potential with the right person to guide her — or a loving home where she can be your one and only.

When she first arrived, her ears were up and alert. She had no idea what was happening. Just 24 hours later, she’s a different dog — terrified and shut down. She paces the yard looking for a way out, and in her kennel, she lies quietly, not making a sound.

šŸ’” Minnie is scared, but not hopeless.
She needs someone kind. Someone patient. Someone like you.

šŸ’” The Bright Side of Minnie:
āœ”ļø She’s house-trained and kennel-trained
āœ”ļø She keeps a very clean kennel
āœ”ļø She bonds emotionally — and quickly — with her caretakers
āœ”ļø She’s young and has a blank slate for training and growth

Right now, she hides behind the person feeding her and showing her kindness. She doesn’t bark. She doesn’t growl. She just waits quietly for someone to understand her.

šŸ“ž If you think you could be that person, please call the shelter at 316-322-8844 or stop by to meet Minnie.
Just know — she’ll need a little time. But the love you’ll get in return will be worth every moment of patience. ā¤ļø

Please share to help Minnie find her hero.

Minnie is a Lab/Rottie/Boston Terrier Mix.

(The picture was from her intake day, and the video is now. Please help Minnie!)
