Non-negotiable:

My name’s Athena and I turned 5 in April. I came to Iowa Weimaraner Rescue because I have separation anxiety and my family was worried they weren’t able to give me the best life possible. I’ve been in my foster home since The end of December 2025 and have adjusted well. I get along with the resident dogs (a Weim and a husky mix).
I had kids in my old house and my foster mom has a niece and nephew that come over a lot and I do great with them!
I am hesitant when meeting new people and can take some time to warm up. Same goes for new dogs. I’m usually a little nervous, especially when they’re really excited.
I have gone to doggy boarding when my foster mom was on vacation and I did well as long as I was with my doggy foster siblings, so I’d probably do best in a house with a canine buddy. I’m not sure about cats, the only one I ever met ran away before I could introduce myself.
I do have separation anxiety, I’m on Prozac and I’ve been working on it. I can stay home comfortably for about 4 hrs but much more than that, I start to get anxious and bark a lot. I’m not destructive, just really vocal. I really don’t like the crate. The one time I was in it at my foster mom’s I drooled a lot and tried to scratch my way out. My foster mom prefers applicants have someone who is home most of the time. I.e. Work from home or stay at home parent.
I know my basic commands, sit, wait, shake, and at meal time I sit and wait until my foster mom say it’s “OK” to eat. I walk pretty well on a gentle lead but if I see a squirrel or rabbit, I’m probably going to try to chase it.
I’m over all a great dog, I just like to be by my people as much as possible.
