A reminder that there are no morning hours today. I am in Nevada for Ryans military service. Thank you for your understanding.

Some housekeeping moving forward:

1. There will be no morning hours September 4th and 5th while my husband and I travel to Nevada for Ryan's military funeral. This is the last interruption for this sad occurrence. Again, thank you for everyone for your help.

2. Just a reminder to keep up with your semi-annual bordetella vaccines. You need to be current in case you have an emergency arise. We always want to be in a position to help you when you need it the most. If you have questions, call in advance. Just make sure you are good to go at least a week before check-in.

3. Shortly, we will have a boarding rate increase. I have pushed that off for a few years while the economy continued to slide and prices for supplies increased. I didn't want to affect you negatively while hoping it would be short-term or the economy would turn around. I do need to be mindful of proper business functions as well. I always give 30 days notice so you have time to evaluate current reservations. This will take place in October once the final calculations take place. I am researching all regional facilities to make sure we are in line with our competitors. I have absorbed these increases too long. Two years ago, my insurance here really took drastic increases and again this past June for another large increase. I have been with them for 21 years with good claims history. They raised rates on all kennels regardless of claims. If you want to be insured properly, you simply have to pay up.

And lastly,

4. Just a reminder that I have had to discontinue grooming for clients that are not boarding or currently in-house. In October, I will be resuming the option to have baths, nail trims, and a few haircuts while you board here. It must happen in conjunction with a boarding stay where I have several days to choose where and when to groom. Grooming daily on set deadlines is what has been discontinued. This gives me a few hours mid-day to accomplish something personal or to just relax for a change. I will have so much to do to close my son's estate. I need to find the time to handle this business.

As always, thank you all for everything. The showing of love, support, etc. to us after Ryan's death is so heart warming. I am grateful beyond words. Much love to you all........

A reminder that we do not have morning hours available tomorrow. My son's funeral is tomorrow. Thanks for your understanding.

MORNING CLOSURE DATES:

August 20
August 25
September 4th and 5th

I found out that tomorrow morning our son will be flown into Minneapolis for his return home. There will be plane side military honors and the Minnesota Patriot Guard is going to lead us back to Helms Funeral Home.

We would not miss this for anything.

I will be doing our morning work here much earlier tomorrow morning so we can leave for Minneapolis timely. WE WILL NOT HAVE PUBLIC HOURS TOMORROW MORNING. I have attempted to contact anyone that would be personally affected. We have tried to maintain a PM only business model during this time so very few are impacted.

His funeral is in Decorah on August 25th and they are also honoring him with a service in Nevada. We will be gone 3 days for that event, considering air travel time. We expect to have no morning hours September 4-5. Morning hours will be restored for that weekend as usual.

The Nevada service should conclude all events. I thank everyone for shuffling their schedules slightly to allow us to operate the kennel but still participate in everything that has happened.

Again, my immense thank you to Joy and Shannon. How lucky I am that both of these ladies graced my doorstep years ago

My husband and I have returned home from California last night after being gone since July 15th. Our emergency trip involved our son, Ryan, who sadly passed away on August 4th, 2025 at Stanford Hospital.

We are still waiting for the US Navy logistics giving us Ryan's arrival date home. We will finalize the information for his visitation, funeral, and burial at that time.

The Navy is honoring him at a separate ceremony at Naval Air Station Fallon in early September. They will fly Jon and I back to Nevada for that.

I returned home with his Frenchie, Willow and lost my boxer, Artie, while we were gone. So many things will be different going forward.

With that being said, I will be discontinuing grooming for outside clients. There are many things to do along with some personal time needed to grieve the loss of our only child. I simply have no personal time daily if I continue to groom.

Boarding will continue as usual with a restoration of the morning hours as soon as I get the specifics from the Navy and can finalize the funeral. I can tell you that the morning shift will be closed the day of his funeral as well as September 4-6 when we make a return trip to Nevada. After that, things can resume to normal.

I can't thank Joy and Shannon enough for finding a way to continue boarding in my absence. We didn't want to disrupt your personal plans. Those two ladies are one in a million.

Down the road, we intend to have time to help our boarding clients with grooming needs. That will come once some of this work has passed.

Thank you for your help in being willing to shift your schedules to accommodate ours. We are so grateful for wonderful clients.

Important notice: Updated 11:39am

I will be flying out today and will be absent to be with our son who is enduring life threatening issues.

All grooming through this weekend will need to be cancelled.

Shannon has made changes at her employment so she can replace me on the morning shift. Thank you to her employer for recognizing a life changing opportunity to help our family and for saying yes to a revised schedule for her.

Joy will continue to be here in the evening and both ladies will handle the busy weekend.

My sister is also leaving her job today to be on-site for the other work issues here in-between shifts. Please continue to use the shift you have selected as we are booked full and can not fluctuate you from am to pm. Shannon and Kathy, my sister, can help you on the morning shift.

Many thanks to these 3 ladies for their help. This has always been my worst fear: how do I walk away on a whim for a medical crisis. Worst case scenario has happened. Please pray for our son, Ryan. I leave for the airport soon. Many thanks for your patience as we endure one of the worst moments in our life.

Deb

This is a reminder of the temporary business hour change as well as the closure of the grooming area. Our daily business hours for drop off and pick up are 4-6pm. Grooming is temporarily closed until my return. I would expect the majority of our phone calls and emails will be handled during this time of the day as well.

I send my full gratitude to my partner in crime, Joy, If she wasn't as dedicated as she is, I would have had to close everything in my absence. I appreciate her more than I can express and I know you all feel the same. I would be remiss if I didn't thank my husband and two other special ladies that are stepping up to the plate to serve our pets
