Yesterday was a very special day for a very special person!

Please help us in saying...

๐ŸŽ‰HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. HAMLIN!!! ๐ŸŽ‰

She's one of the most compassionate, dedicated and incredible veterinarians we know ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฉท

Her kindness, patience and love for every animal (and every worried pet parent!) make such a difference each and every day. We are beyond grateful for the hard work, heart and joy she brings to our team and hospital family.

So thank you for always going above and beyond, for treating every patient like your own and for being such an amazing person inside and out! We truly love and appreciate you more than words can say! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

p.s. - we miss you and hope you're having the best time in Florida

ps..ps... Please come back, we're flapping๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…

Meet Savage aka MIAโ€ฆ she has had quite the adventure. She was found in a bathroom at Savage Field in Tulsa and brought to us for care, vaccines, and a fresh start. As with every found pet, we scanned for a microchipโ€”and weโ€™re so glad we did. She had one! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

That tiny chip helped us contact her family and get her safely reunited. ๐Ÿ’™

She traveled about 20 miles (approx 30 min drive) proving that lost pets can travel farther than we think whether on their own, or if someone picks them up. Microchips give pets the best chance of making it back home when collars fall off or accidents happen.

Miaโ€™s story is your reminder: microchips matter, and reunions like this are why we scan every found pet. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

This week weโ€™re celebrating Veterinary Receptionist Week, and weโ€™re so thankful for our very own, Kendal. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

She is often the first smile you see and the friendly voice you hear when you call. Veterinary receptionists do so much behind the scenes โ€” coordinating appointments, managing records, helping clients, relaying information to the medical team, and keeping the hospital running smoothly each day.

Kendal does it all with kindness, patience, and a smile. We are so lucky to work with her and so grateful for everything she does for our team, clients, and patients.

WE LOVE YOU KENDAL!!!! ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿšจ Pet Owners๐Ÿšจ

Dr. Hamlin diagnosed her first case of the year and expects to see more cases, so letโ€™s talk about Cytauxzoon felis (โ€œAKA: Bobcat Feverโ€)

As temperatures warm up, tick activity increases and so does the risk of a serious (often fatal) disease in cats called Cytauxzoon felis.

๐Ÿฆ  What is it?
Cytauxzoon felis is a parasite transmitted by ticks (especially the lone star tick) that infects a catโ€™s blood cells. Itโ€™s commonly found in wild bobcats, which act as natural carriers, but can be deadly when transmitted to domestic cats.

๐Ÿฑ Who is at risk?
โ€ข Outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats
โ€ข Cats in rural or wooded areas
โ€ข Cats not on consistent tick prevention

โš ๏ธ Symptoms (often sudden and severe):
โ€ข Lethargy or weakness
โ€ข Loss of appetite
โ€ข High fever
โ€ข Pale or yellow gums (jaundice)
โ€ข Difficulty breathing
โ€ข Dehydration

โณ Time matters:
This disease progresses quickly and often within just a few days. Early recognition and immediate veterinary care are critical for survival.

Prevention is key:
- Use year-round tick prevention (ask us for recommendations)
- Keep cats indoors when possible
- Check for ticks regularly, especially after being outside.

Important note:
While historically considered fatal, survival is possible with early, aggressive treatment.

If you have concerns about your cat, give us a call! Weโ€™re here to help keep your pets safe and healthy. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š
