AND THE ANSWER IS... 🥁
For those who guessed microfilaria, you are correct! 🏆 Microfilaria are the baby stage of heartworms. Over a 6-7 month period, through 🦟 transmission and infecting a susceptible host (such as a dog or cat), microfilaria migrate through the 🩸 stream and tissues of that host, eventually maturing into adult heartworms. The lifecycle of this parasite is why we strongly encourage and recommend monthly heartworm prevention year-round, despite the season or temperature.
