Sunday Smiles 🥳
Mitzy's story began in heartbreaking circumstances. She was discovered by a group of local teenagers running down the middle of a rural road. Shocked by her condition, they immediately brought her to us on a weekend when most places were closed and asked for help.
This poor little girl was mostly blind and deaf and suffering from one of the worst cases of flea dermatitis we had ever seen (and that's saying a lot!). She spun in circles wincing and crying in pain. We immediately gave her some much needed relief with a flea and medicated bath and immediately found her a foster home.
First thing Monday morning, she was off to the vet and began her long road to recovery. It took more than six months of veterinary visits, antibiotics, daily eye medications, and medicated baths, for Mitzy to heal, all made possible by her incredible foster family who took such amazing care of her for over 18 months!
Finally, Mitzy was ready for adoption! She received multiple applications and went on several trials, but we eventually discovered something important: Mitzy wasn't comfortable without a fenced yard. Her nose is her strongest sense, and she absolutely loves being outside, soaking up the sunshine and keeping that nose busy! Then came an email from a potential adopter who understood the ongoing care Mitzy would need, including the patience and monthly expenses that come with it. It seemed like the perfect match, but there was one very important family member who needed to give his approval, the man of the house, a senior Shih Tzu boy named Mason!
Today, Mitzy is settled into her new home, has become besties with Mason, and has an adopter who embraces every bit of her adorable, independent little spitfire personality. Mitzy is loved and spoiled beyond measure. And the best part? She has her own fenced yard AND a doggie door so she can put that amazing nose to work whenever she pleases!
From running down a rural road in desperate need of help to having a home, a best friend, and a yard of her own, Mitzy's journey has been quite the adventure. Sometimes finding the right home takes a little longer, but for Mitzy, it was worth the wait!
