🐾 New Jersey pet owners may soon get a little financial relief.

A proposed New Jersey bill would provide up to a $900 annual tax credit for dog and cat owners to help offset the rising costs of pet care. The proposal includes up to $300 for everyday pet expenses such as food, leashes, crates, litter, grooming supplies, and toys — along with up to $600 for veterinary expenses including exams, medications, emergency care, and diagnostic testing. (New York Post)

As veterinary professionals, we see every day how much families love their pets and how committed they are to providing quality care — even as costs continue to rise for food, medications, diagnostics, and preventive care. For many seniors, families, and individuals, pets are not “just animals” — they are companions, emotional support, and family members.

Preventive veterinary care not only helps pets live longer, healthier lives, but can also help avoid larger medical expenses down the road. Any effort that encourages compliance with wellness visits, vaccines, parasite prevention, and early medical intervention is a positive step for both pets and the people who love them.

The bill still needs approval from the New Jersey Legislature and governor before becoming law, but it certainly has many pet owners talking throughout the Garden State. 🐶🐱

The proposal from Assemblyman Alex Sauicke would cover everyday expenses and veterinary care for cats and dogs.

Yesterday, representatives from Rothman Animal Hospital, Shelley and Kathy, proudly participated in the annual West Deptford Senior Wellness Fair, an incredible community event that brings together seniors from across Gloucester County to focus on health, wellness, and quality of life — for both themselves and their beloved pets.

During the event, Rothman Animal Hospital had the opportunity to speak with attendees about the importance of proactive pet care, especially for senior pets who require additional attention as they age. Topics discussed included keeping pets current on vaccinations, maintaining compliance with heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives, and the value of routine wellness exams to help pets live longer, healthier lives.

Our team enjoyed connecting with the community, answering questions, and helping pet owners better understand how preventive care plays a vital role in protecting their furry family members. At Rothman Animal Hospital, we believe healthy pets contribute to happier, healthier families — and we are always grateful for opportunities to support our local community through education and outreach.

Please join us in welcoming Gabby to the Rothman Animal Hospital family! 🎉🐾

Gabby is currently a second-year veterinary student at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada and will be spending the next eight weeks with us completing her externship. She brings with her a strong academic background, hands-on veterinary experience, and a true passion for animal care.

From working with dogs, cats, birds, and even tortoises, to competing as an NCAA Division 1 Track & Field athlete at the University of Connecticut, Gabby’s dedication, teamwork, and work ethic shine through in everything she does.

We are excited to be part of her journey as she continues working toward her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Be sure to say hello and give her a warm Rothman welcome when you see her around the hospital! ❤️🐶🐱🐦

On Friday members of the Rothman Animal Hospital team — Shelley, Jada (CVT) , and Kathy — had the wonderful opportunity to attend a community outreach event at LEAP Academy Middle School in Camden, New Jersey.

The team spoke with students about the many career paths and care options within the veterinary field, from veterinary technicians and client care to surgery, diagnostics, and animal nursing. It was an amazing experience to share our passion for animal care and inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals.

We love being part of our community and helping students explore the exciting and rewarding world of veterinary medicine. Thank you to LEAP Academy for welcoming us and allowing us to connect with such bright and enthusiastic students! 🐾❤️

Complete with a beach chair, sun hat, tropical vibes, and zero responsibilities, this little guy has officially found the only patch of sunshine in his world. We should all strive for this level of relaxation. 😂

Rainy days? Never heard of them.
