Important Reminder: Report Raccoons That Appear Sick Immediately
If you encounter or see any animal that appears sick or if you suspect rabies, please report immediately to Animal Control at (855) 422-7226. If it is after hours or you cannot get animal control immediately, please contact the Collingswood Police Department at (856) 854-1900 or dial 911. Quick reporting allows Animal Control to investigate and respond appropriately.
It’s important to note that increased raccoon activity during the spring is normal. Parent raccoons often forage for food during the day for their young, which can cause them to appear confused or active in daylight hours. While this behavior can seem concerning, it is not always a sign of rabies. However, because a rabid raccoon was recently trapped, we are encouraging extra caution.
The Borough is actively monitoring all calls and reporting information to the appropriate county and state agencies. We will continue to provide updates to the public as new information becomes available.
