It's Itchy Pet Awareness Month! From all of us at Pet Dermatology Center, we are so thankful to our clients for trusting us with their pets. We know how frustrating it can be to see our fur kids itchy and miserable--but the best part of our job is helping them find relief and getting them on a path to a happier itch-free life. Finding the right treatments for our patients and seeing them find their spark again is why we do whay we do!

Pictured is Marceline, one of our staff pets who is allergic to...pretty much everything. Thanks to Dr. Levy, she's on a special diet, medicated shampoo, immunotherapy injections, and she no longer needs her allergy meds!

Our lovely patient Prince is seeking a loving home to call his castle! His foster mom brought him to "hold court" at Pet Dermatology Center a while ago, and now his skin issues are under control and he's ready for a forever family.

Some more about Prince:

"Prince is estimated to be between 2-3 years old.  He came into rescue when a good Samaritan called to say there was a hairless cat hanging out in her yard.  The Cat Collaborative  sprang into action and picked up poor Prince who had been living outside in the dead of winter while missing half the hair on this body.  He was shivering, thin and so scared. But he has blossomed in foster care. After many months of working with the amazing Dr. Britt Levy at The Pet Dermatology Center we finally determined that Prince’s hair loss was due to allergies.  Turns out Prince is highly allergic to fleas and a few other environmental triggers.

Lucky for Prince he is now thriving.  With diligent flea treatments and a daily allergy med he has regrown his coat and is the happiest boy.  He loves nothing more than to follow you around the house and make the occasional stop on a sunny windowsill.  Please consider adopting Prince and making him part of your family.  He deserves the best!"

If interested, you can reach out to [email protected] and we will get you in touch with Prince's foster!

This is Moose, another friend who came to us with a disease known as "erythema multiformae". This form of the disease is sometimes called "old dog" EM because it primarily effects senior dogs, but that is not always the case. The large, firmly attached crusts seen on the third slide. The first and final slides are Moose now, he is currently on Apoquel and greatly improving!

WARNING! YUCKY OUCHY PHOTOS AHEAD!

Meet Benny, a very sweet boy who came to us with one of the most severe cases of pyoderma (skin infection) we'd seen at our practice. He was not acting like himself, feeling lethargic and very uncomfortable. Dr. Levy took a culture to determine what antibiotics we should use to fight this infection and Benny's mom bathed him frequently with a medicated shampoo. Cut to 30 days later, and you can see what a difference it made! We are so happy for Benny!

This is our patient Sandi after three weeks of treatment with Apoquel in addition to steroids. Sandi has a rare immune-mediated condition known as Erythema Multiforme, which causes the uncomfortable lesions seen in the first photo. Apoquel has been shown to be an effective treatment in some cases, and you can see in the second photo that Sandi is already doing so much better!

Who's this handsome guy? Why it's Nash, celebrating one whole year of immunotherapy! Nash was an 8/10 on our itchy scale when he first came to see us, and now he's a 3/10 at his absolute worst. Happy Immunoversary buddy!

Meet Leonard! Leonard is a sweet boy who was suffering from a rare and painful lesion in his nose. While this manifestation is unusual, the root cause is actually very common in cats --- herpes virus! Many cats are exposed to herpes as kittens, and the virus remains dormant in their bodies for the rest of their lives. It can occasionally "flare up", which most commonly manifests as respiratory infections, but in Leonard's case it causes this lesion to appear! Fortunately, there are effective treatments available for this condition, and as you can see Leonard is feeling much better!

HAPPY IMMUNOVERSARY RILEY!!! Since her immunotherapy started to "kick in" earlier this year, Riley has been able to go much longer without her Cytopoint injections (which usually only help for around 4 weeks). She's been infection free for quite some time and feeling amazing!
