🐱 Happy Bring Your Cat to Work Day! 🐱

As a veterinary team, we care for cats every day—but today we're celebrating some of our own! Featured in this photo are some of the feline family members of our staff, all of whom firmly believe they are the true boss.

Whether they're supervising from a windowsill, helping with paperwork by sitting on it, or demanding treats on schedule, these cats take their jobs very seriously.

Show us your favorite feline co-worker below and tell us what role they'd have at the clinic. Chief Treat Inspector? Director of Napping Services? Head of Human Resources? The options are as varied as the cats themselves!

🐾 Happy Father's Day to all the amazing pet dads! 🐾

Today, we're celebrating the fathers who never miss a walk, always share their favorite chair, and somehow end up with more pet photos on their phones than anything else. ❤️

Whether you're tossing tennis balls, filling food bowls, giving belly rubs, or providing a safe and loving home, your pets are lucky to have you.

From all of us at Charlottesville Veterinary Hospital, thank you for the care, patience, and unconditional love you give your furry family members every day.

Share a photo of your pet and their favorite human dad in the comments so we can celebrate with you!

🐱 June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month! 🐱

Thinking about getting a cat? Adopt from a shelter and gain:
✔️ A best friend
✔️ A professional nap coach
✔️ A tiny supervisor for everything you do

Shelter cats come with big personalities, endless purrs, and a talent for sitting exactly where you needed to be. But most importantly, when you adopt a shelter cat, you’re giving a deserving cat a second chance at a loving home. ❤️

🚨Adorable kittens seeking furever homes!🚨

Meet Cheeto & Frank: two former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle wannabes who have traded their life of petty sewer crime for indoor luxury and unlimited snacks.

These boys were born in the storm drains outside of our clinic and are now about 11 weeks old. One of our amazing veterinary assistants has had them for 4-5 weeks, though Frank insisted on remaining a fugitive for an extra week before being apprehended.

🧡 Cheeto is an extrovert. He loves people, loves cats, and approaches every meal as if it were his last. He's playful, cuddly, energetic, and generally convinced that everyone should be his friend. He's still a little suspicious of large dogs (but honestly, if you were the size of a potato and a 67-pound Lab named Turbo came barreling toward you, you'd be concerned too).

🖤 Frank is more of an introvert. He has made incredible progress from his feral beginnings but still prefers to maintain a professional distance from humans. He tolerates being petted, but strongly discourages being picked up. However, offer him a squeezable treat and suddenly he's willing to negotiate his principles. He'll do just about anything for food. We suspect he'll continue to blossom once he's settled into a forever home.

The catch? These two are a package deal. Frank absolutely adores Cheeto and basically shuts down if they're separated. Cheeto is his emotional support brother!

Both are litterbox trained but have not yet been neutered. They need an experienced cat owner who can continue their socialization journey and appreciate that one kitten comes with confidence and the other comes with trust issues.

If you're looking for a bonded pair of tiny former sewer gremlins to fill your home with chaos, purring, and demands for snacks, send us a message! Not ready to open your home to this pair of fun and excitement? Share this post so we can successfully find a home for these beautiful boys.

We just can't believe that any of Dr. Luzaich's amazing foster kitties haven't been adopted! As hard as it is to imagine, Mama Cat Sage and adorable little girl Sesame are still looking for their furever homes.

Sage is a lovely, all around nice cat who did her job as a wonderful mother and now deserves a home of her own.

Sesame is a very sweet and playful kitten who would flourish in a loving home away from shelter life.

Please share these two great kitties and consider them if you are thinking of adding a sweet addition to your home. Adoptions are through Nelson County SPCA.

🐾 June is Foster a Pet Month! 🐾

Every year, thousands of animals in shelters wait for a second chance — and fostering can make all the difference! Opening your home (even temporarily) gives pets the love, comfort, and care they need while they wait for their forever families.

Not able to foster? You can still help by volunteering at your local animal shelter. Whether it’s walking dogs, socializing cats, helping with events, or donating supplies, every act of kindness matters.

Fair warning, though - sometimes those fosters turn in to "foster fails" - and we want to see yours! Show us the pets who came to stay temporarily and never left, and share your story of how that foster became family. 🐶🐱💕

Together, we can give shelter pets hope, healing, and happy futures.

Today is National Heat Awareness Day ☀️🐾
As temperatures rise, remember our pets feel the heat too! Keep fresh water available, avoid hot pavement, and never leave pets in parked cars.

Pay special attention if you have a brachycephalic dog like a pug, bulldog, or Boston terrier. Those adorable flat faces and short noses severely limit their ability to cool themselves by panting, making them particularly susceptible to heatstroke.

Signs of heatstroke in pets can include excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness, bright red gums, or collapse. If you notice these symptoms, move your pet to a cool area and contact your veterinarian right away. ❤️

With warmer weather and summer gatherings just around the corner, don’t forget to keep an eye on your furry family members during BBQs and festivities! 🐾

A fun backyard barbecue can quickly turn into an emergency if pets get into the wrong things. No matter how much they beg, avoid sharing people food — especially cooked bones, corn cobs, onions & garlic, chocolate, alcohol, and fatty meats or grease.

Other dangers include skewers and sharp utensils, hot grills and charcoal, heat exhaustion, open gates, and fireworks anxiety.

During your summer parties, remember to always keep fresh water available, remind guests not to feed table scraps, and create a safe shaded area away from the grill for your furry friend to relax.

Let’s keep every family member safe this summer — including the four-legged ones! 🐶🐱☀️
