According to the Heartworm Society in 2022 “more than 1 million animals in the US have been diagnosed with heartworm disease.” Heartworm disease is a fatal disease attacking the heart, lungs and pulmonary blood vessels. When left untreated, mosquitoes infected with heartworms deposit larvae to the blood stream of dogs and cats. Cats aren’t as susceptible to symptomatic heartworm disease since most of the affected larvae get killed before reaching maturity. Prevention is the safest and quickest way to prevent heartworms. Don’t forget your annual heartworm test and monthly prevention!

Today we’re recognizing the long standing holiday, Labor Day. Starting with a NYC parade, Labor Day commemorated all of the hard workers who fought for equal pay, workers rights and an 8-hour workday. Now, Labor day recognizes all hard laborers and workers who help keep everything running. Enjoy the end of the summer and start of fall sports!

Holy hairballs, Batman!! This patient feels a lot better now that we removed some heavy duty hair matts which were trapping moisture and causing skin infection.
