Community Update: Temporary Closure This Evening

The Animal Emergency Clinic will be closed tonight. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide care this evening due to not having a doctor.

We know this is a tough situation for pet owners in our area, and we’re doing what we can to get back to regular hours. At this time, we’re still working out tomorrow’s schedule. We’ll post another update as soon as we know more.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

📣 The Animal Emergency Clinic will be closing early tonight (Tuesday, May 13th) at 10:00 p.m.

We do not have a veterinarian available to cover the overnight shift, which means we will not be able to accept any transfers or hospitalize patients overnight.

We know this creates a gap in care, and we’re genuinely sorry. Our team is actively working to fill these shifts and bring in additional veterinarians.

We’ll keep you posted about tomorrow’s hours as soon as we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Let's talk about Ethylene Glycol (Antifreeze) Poisoning..

Ethylene Glycol poisoning is from a an animal ingesting antifreeze. Dogs and cats are affected by this most often. It does not take much for an animal to come in contact with a lethal dose and animals seem to ingest it due to it having a sweet taste. Antifreeze toxicity is more common during colder weather.

Signs and symptoms include but not limited to vomiting, excessive thirst, and increase urination. They can also have neurologic signs like depression, and as they become more depressed they will not want to drink as much which then can lead to dehydration. Kidney damage could happen between 36 and 72 hours for dogs, and 12-24 hours in cats .

With more time that passes prognosis can become worse. Treatments can range from inducing vomiting to flushing the stomach then giving activated charcoal. Then, it is important to give fluids to help correct the dehydration that may be caused.

Ethylene Glycol should be properly stored and if being used should be covered with kitty litter to eliminate pets from wanting to lick it.

If you think your pet may have gotten into Ethylene Glycol (antifreeze) call your veterinarian and ASPCA as soon as possible. ASPCA can be contacted by calling 888-426-4435
