Does your animal have itchy ears? It could be an infection! These are photos of what an ear infection looks like under the microscope. Our pets can get a bacterial infection (top photo,) a yeast infection (bottom photo,) or a combination of both! These strive in moist and warm places and your pet's ears are prime real estate!

When seeing signs of infection- red/swollen ears, a build-up of debris, a foul smell- it's important not to wait to get treatment. Ear infections can escalate quickly and be very painful or even damaging to your pets anatomy, hearing, and wellbeing.

Here are some ways you can help reduce the potential for ear infections in your pets:

-Avoid getting their ears wet. If your pet likes to swim, play in the rain, etc. wipe out their ears with a dry cotton ball or paper towel.

-Clean the ears. Many ear cleansers we can provide include a drying aspect to them. Cleaning out the debris and leaving the ears able to drive is an excellent way to combat infections.

-Consider allergies. Reoccurring ear infections can be a sign of a food or environmental allergy. You may try transitioning to a different food. The most common allergies for dogs are beef, chicken, dairy, and wheat.

-Routine vet checks. Your pet may need ear treatment on a more regular basis and it's better to catch the infection starting before it blows up!
