🐾 Looking for a Loving Forever Home! 🐾

A former SmartVet employee recently took in this sweet guy and is now looking for the perfect forever home for him! ❤️

He is a young Pittie mix, estimated to be around 8–10 months old, so he is definitely still in his puppy era! 🐶 He is incredibly affectionate and would happily be a lap dog if you let him. 🥰

✨ A few things about this sweet boy:

Knows sit, stay, and leave it
Crate trained and kenneled when home alone and overnight
Very affectionate and loves being close to his people
A little mouthy because he is still young, but he is learning quickly!
May bark when meeting new people, but warms up easily with a calm voice and some treats
Suspected Pittie mix
Still learning and would thrive with someone willing to continue his training

🏡 The ideal home:
He will do well with someone who has experience with resource-protective behaviors and is comfortable providing appropriate supervision and continued training. He does love to play with other dogs, but items can be an issue. He also has a very high drive for cats. A home as a single dog with no cats would be best for him!

Most importantly, he is a sweet, affectionate young dog who is eager to learn and loves his people. ❤️ He deserves a home that will continue helping him grow into the wonderful adult dog we know he can be!

🌿🐾 Allergy Season Is Upon Us: Don't Ignore Those Itchy Ears! 🐾🌿

As the weather changes, many pets begin to experience seasonal allergies—and one of the most common places they show up is in your pet’s ears. 👂🐶🐱

The picture shown here is an example of yeast seen in an ear sample under the microscope. Yeast is a normal organism that can live in small amounts on your pet’s skin and ears, but allergies, moisture, and inflammation can allow it to overgrow and lead to an uncomfortable ear infection.

🚩 Signs your pet may be dealing with an ear issue:
🐾 Frequent head shaking
👂 Scratching or pawing at the ears
🔴 Red, irritated, or inflamed ears
🟤 Dark discharge or buildup
👃 A strong or unusual odor
💔 Sensitivity when the ears are touched

Allergies can cause inflammation in the ears, making them more prone to infections caused by yeast or bacteria. Treating the underlying cause and identifying what is present in the ear helps us provide the right care for your pet.

🧼 Ways to help support healthy ears:
✔️ Check your pet’s ears regularly
✔️ Use veterinarian-recommended ear cleaners when needed
✔️ Keep ears dry after baths or swimming
✔️ Schedule an exam if you notice changes in your pet’s ears
