🐾✨ Meet Oscar! ✨🐾

Oscar and his sibling were hanging out at Union County Animal Control when things got urgent—his sibling tested heartworm positive and AC had to act fast. That’s where Castoff Pet Rescue stepped in! 💪 We always try to support the hard work our AC folks are doing, and luckily, we were able to scoop up Oscar and give him a safe place, while Union Co AC fixes his brother up.

Oscar is about 9 months old, which means he’s still a puppy and very much a blank slate. Translation: he’s ready to be molded to your specifications—like Play-Doh, but with fur, a tail, and a way cuter personality. 😂

He’s not quite adoption-ready yet (we’re taking care of all his vetting and he still needs to be neutered), but we’d love to find him a foster or a foster-to-adopt home where he can start learning all the good stuff—like manners, snuggles, and how not to chew your shoes. He's a smart kid and already housetrained. That said - it usually takes a little bit in a new surrounding.

We LOVE a good foster “failure” — you fall in love, adopt your floof, and we all happy-cry over your happily-ever-after. 🥹 But... here's the thing: we also really, really, REALLY need foster heroes who don’t keep every dog or cat they meet (as tempting as it is — we get it, they’re adorable).

Because one foster doesn’t just help one pet — you help HUNDREDS. 🐾

✨ Fostering is the heartbeat of rescue. Here’s why you’re kind of a big deal when you open your home to a rescue pet:

✅ You make room at the shelter for another animal in need
✅ You give them a soft place to land instead of a loud, scary kennel

🍪💛 Meet Cookie 💛🍪

This little firecracker showed up right on the porch of our very own Cat Boss and Shelter Savant, Sara. (Smart girl — Cookie clearly knows how to pick her people!)

She may be tiny, but her personality is mighty. Here’s what we’ve learned so far:
✨ Affectionate and outgoing
✨ Agile, energetic, and just the right amount of sassy
✨ House trained & crate trained
✨ Loves chew toys and bones
✨ Gets along with people and other dogs
✨ Probably fine with cats… unless she tries to chase them, in which case she won’t know what to do if she actually “catches” one! 😅

Cookie is still finishing up her vetting, so she’s not quite ready for adoption yet. BUT—she can start her next adventure with a foster-to-adopt home.

We are all completely smitten with her, and we know she’ll make her future family just as happy. 🐾💖

🐾 Kitten Season is here in full force! 🐾🐈‍⬛🐈

Our phone has not stopped ringing with calls about found strays, dumped animals, and owner surrenders. We have taken in a lot of stray kittens from the community, and some are so tiny they can fit in the palm of your hand. They steal your heart the second you see them, and we are doing everything we can to give them a chance at happy, healthy lives.

As one of the rescues in town that steps up for community needs, we have to ask for help. We do not receive any state or local funding, so everything we provide comes from the kindness of supporters like you.

This online treasure hunt helps us feed and vet our cats and dogs. Since we don’t receive any state or local funding, eBay is one of the creative ways we keep tails wagging and whiskers twitching.

One tail, two ears, four paws... and a huge heart waiting for YOU.

Welcome to Doggy Day Out, a volunteer program that lets our rescue dogs take a break from kennel life to spend time with wonderful humans like you. 🐶💖

Let’s be real - as much as we smother them with love at the rescue, the shelter can be a noisy, stressful place. These pups need a breather. A sniff-worthy trail. Attention. A little one-on-one TLC that doesn’t involve vaccines or thermometers.

Here's how it works:
➡ Take a dog out for a few hours or half a day.
➡ Visit a quiet trail, a shady lake spot, or a drive-thru for a pup cup.
➡ Snap some cute pics, give them some love, and help us learn more about them so we can match them with the perfect forever home.

Please, no home visits. We don’t want to confuse our pups with false hope — but giving them a little fun in the sun is a huge gift. 🎁

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or a dog-lover who just can’t adopt right now, this program is a powerful way to make a difference — one doggy day at a time.

🐾 Meet Socko – A Gentle Soul Searching for His Soft Place to Land 💙

Socko’s story is one of love, loss, and second chances. He was deeply loved by his person — but when life took a hard turn, his owner could no longer give him the home he deserved. There was no safe place for Socko to stay, so now he’s with us, waiting for a new beginning.

Socko is a small pitty baby with a big heart. He’s sweet, affectionate, and wants nothing more than to be loved again. He knows what love feels like — now he just needs a soft spot to rest his head and someone to believe in him.

Like many dogs in a stressful shelter environment, Socko does resource guard his food, but we understand that behavior often comes from anxiety and uncertainty. With patience, structure, and a calm home, he’ll have the chance to feel safe and relax again.

Socko has had all his vetting. He gravitates towards men and can be reactive to women. He will need someone who understands his trauma and is willing to work with him.

Meet Traveler, the orange tabby dynamo 🐾 who’s more curious than a detective 🔍 with a magnifying glass and twice as cute! This little furball will sprint straight into your heart ❤️ and set up camp there, complete with a tiny hammock 🏕️ and a "Home Sweet Home" sign.

Traveler's got a name that fits like a glove because once you make eye contact 👀 with this bundle of purrs, you'll be planning his itinerary straight to your living room. He's litter box trained, which means he won’t be leaving you any surprise packages 📦, unless you count the ones full of love and mischief.

He gets along famously with other cats 😺, possibly because he conducts his kitten diplomacy with the finesse of a seasoned ambassador. And don't worry, Traveler's already neutered, so there won’t be any unexpected additions to the kitten population explosion. This little gentleman wants to know everything you’re up to – whether you're sorting socks or trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube, he’s there to offer his expert assistance.
