Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day! 🐈‍⬛ 🖤 - Today we celebrate all of our all black kitties!

🧙‍♀️ Myths about black cats are not true! Black Cats Deserve as much love as any of our other feline friends!

📉 Black cats have the lowest adoption rates out of any other animals in shelters! If you are in the market for a new cat, don't forget to give black cats your consideration!

🎃 Owners of black cats should keep them INDOORS during the Halloween season for their safety! Black cats are known to be targeted during this time due to myths and superstition which places them at a higher risk of harm. Protect yours by keeping them inside! 🏠

Pet Heat Safety Tips!☀️🐶

Since summer is in full swing, we wanted to provide a list of tips to keep your pets safe during this Louisiana heat!🌡️

1. Always provide shade and water when outside🕶️💧

2. Avoid asphalt when going on walks. Paw pads can easily get burned!🔥

3. NEVER leave pets in cars, even with a cracked window or parked in shade !!🚫🚗

4. Limit outside exercise💪

5. Try to schedule walks when the sun is rising/setting to avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight 🌅

6. Always monitor pets for signs of heat stroke/heat exhaustion. 🚨 Signs include excessive panting, increased salivation, high body temperature, bright red or pale white gums, lethargy, and collapse.

To celebrate, PetDesk has provided a list of tips to keep your pets SAFE this 4th of July. 🇺🇸

1. Avoid exposure to high temperatures and hot pavement ☀️
2. Keep pets at home and INSIDE during fireworks 🧨

4. Pet proof your home by removing hazards ⚠️
5. Create a safe space with familiar scents 🛌

✨ Staff Highlight! ✨

This month we are highlighting our practice manager, Keith Tullier! 👏🥳

Keith Tullier began working at Garden District Animal Hospital 🏥 as a veterinary assistant in February of 2014 and became the practice manager in 2023! 🐾 Keith has many pets including his cats 🐱, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Queen Cleopatra, and King Leonidas, and his dog 🐶, Arrow.

When Keith is not working hard to keep our clinic running as smooth as possible, Keith enjoys spending quality time with his wife and kids. ❤️🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

FUN FACT : Keith can play the didgeridoo! 🎶🦘

If you see our manager around the clinic, make sure to say hi, and let him know his work here at GDAH is appreciated! 🫶🏻

We are a full service animal hospital that takes both emergency cases as well as less urgent medical, surgical, and dental issues. We also offer veterinary supervised boarding at reasonable rates with Sunday pick up times available. Beyond the many services offered, Garden District Animal Hospital, has a staff that is passionate about animals and dedicated to treating your pet as they would their own. Our clinic is dedicated to the community which is evident through our association with most of the animal welfare organizations in Baton Rouge. These welfare agencies include but are not limited to, Cat Haven, Project Purr, PASS, FOTA, APAWS, CAAWS, Spay Baton Rouge, and Fix-A-Feline.
