Present: we have a small hobby farm with a 2 acre pond, 2 horses, 2 minis, 2 donkeys, sheep, ducks, rabbits, chickens. Plus 1 peacock, 1 pig and 1 cursing Amazon parrot that was a Katrina rescue from 16 years ago. All animals are kid friendly for my grand kiddos to enjoy, with the exception of the mean cursing parrot!

Immediately post Katrina and Rita, during our team efforts in pet rescue to affected areas, I had a personal issue with the director of PETA. Via that contact, and I’ve not verified these stats, but I am not surprised at all with this.
With all that said, please support your local rescue and shelters where you know where your donations are used.

PETA euthanized about 67% of the animals it took in during 2024, while spending only about 0.17% of its total expenses on animal shelters and animal-related groups. According to their own shelter records, PETA took in 3,317 animals in 2024 and euthanized 2,213 of them. They adopted out 63. That is a brutal number for an organization that raises money under the name “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.”

The 0.17% number comes directly from PETA’s own FY2024 tax filing. PETA reported $71.3 million in total expenses, but the listed domestic grants to outside animal-related groups added up to about $120,761. That is less than 1%. Hunters spend millions of their own money to improve habitat, monitor populations, and provide a long natural life for animals. Who is really the group that is supporting the ethical treatment of animals with their actions?

My favorite piece of equipment on the farm next to my Mule. But Mayhem Marley is causing me grief with his typical Heeler herding anything that moves. Not good Mar, not good!
