A tiny bird once lost from the wild just welcomed four new chicks in Virginia, giving its species fresh hope. 🐦💚

At the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia, four sihek chicks hatched this spring, adding precious new life to a species with only about 125 birds left worldwide.

Also known as the Guam kingfisher, the sihek vanished from the wild in Guam by 1988 after invasive brown tree snakes devastated native birds.

Thanks to decades of careful breeding and global conservation work, sihek have recently returned to the wild on protected Palmyra Atoll, where the first wild eggs in almost 40 years were reported in 2025.

High in the Swiss Alps, a dam wall covered in solar panels is turning snow into winter power. ☀️❄️

On Switzerland’s Muttsee Dam, Axpo and IWB installed almost 5,000 solar modules at about 2,500 metres above sea level. The AlpinSolar plant uses the dam’s existing wall, strong mountain sunlight, cooler temperatures, less fog, and snow reflection to produce far more winter electricity than similar lowland systems. It generates around 3–3.3 million kilowatt hours a year, enough for roughly 700 homes, while helping Switzerland create cleaner power when winter demand is highest.

Two dolphins appeared to pass judgment after watching a man yell at his wife inside an aquarium.

A couple was arguing near the glass at a local aquarium while visitors slowly started keeping their distance.

The woman had lost her purse, and inside it were the man’s keys. Instead of helping her look, he started yelling, calling her careless and making the situation worse while she stood there embarrassed in front of everyone. Behind the glass, two dolphins seemed to be watching the whole thing.

People nearby said the argument got so uncomfortable that they thought security was going to step in. The woman eventually started crying and ran away from the exhibit. That’s when one of the dolphins backed up a little, almost like it was preparing to do something.

As the man stood there still upset, the dolphin suddenly sprayed water above the glass, aiming straight at his face.

The two people behind him started laughing, and other visitors had already been recording because the dolphins looked like they were waiting for the right moment.

Security later found the woman’s purse, with the keys still inside, and the couple left shortly after. But cameras showed the man speaking quietly to her before walking out, almost like he was apologizing.

Nobody knows what the dolphins understood, but everyone watching felt like they picked a side.
