Today Pepper and I ventured back into the sandpit. The local Pony Club were running a ribbon day, so we grabbed the chance to step up and have our first crack at Level One. Considering Pepper has just had a month off and a grand total of three rides in the lead‑up, expectations were… modest. But he came out absolutely glowing and was SUCH a good boy.

After our tests, I was saying to a friend that even though we have a LOT to work on — and plenty of the test was not exactly elegant — the one thing I can always count on with Pepper is that I will feel safe, and I will have fun. That’s worth more than any score.

But the scores weren’t too shabby either: 61.8% in 1A and 62.69% in 1B. For a pony fresh out of his mud‑holiday and running on three rides’ worth of preparation, I’m pretty chuffed.

With the lack of training, I set myself some low‑key goals, and we met or exceeded every single one. That’s a 100% win in my book. It might have been a small pony club event, but the competition was fierce. We didn’t come home with any ribbons… but I still loaded up the BEST little horse and took him home with me, and that’s the ONLY prize I needed.

Perfect day to chip off the mud and blow out the cobwebs.

I am aware of two super youngsters that are looking for new people. Both by Crossiebeg Brennan - Class 1 Studbook Connemara Stallion. One is R4yo (bred by me and out of my gorgeous Exemplar mare who is no longer with us) and the other is, I think, R8yo and already under saddle with mileage but green. PM me and I can put you in touch with sellers.

TF bred and a full sibling to the R4yo is an absolute demon on the hunt field.

R8yo is out of a classy inspected NZTB mare.

Pepper had his first cross-country outing today, beautifully piloted by Francesca Silver-Carter.

It makes my heart sing to see him enjoying himself so much and trying so hard. He's so much like his sire, who also took to cross-country like a duck to water.

No land speed records are likely to be broken, but honestly... how beautiful does this look to ride? No rushing, no pulling, just quietly jumping out of a beautifully balanced canter, ears pricked and loving every minute.

I couldn't be happier with my special homegrown boy. ❤️

🐴 Breeding season 2026/27 is fast approaching! 🐴

I'll be updating my stud contracts and fees in the coming weeks.

Like everyone, I've seen the cost of just about everything increase over recent years, while my stud and collection fees have remained largely unchanged for quite some time. As a result, there will be a price increase for the upcoming season.

If you're considering breeding your mare to Brennan or Leo this season and would like to secure the current rates, get in touch now 📩. I'm happy to send out a 2025/26 breeding contract and will honour those prices for mares booked before the new fees take effect.

✨ Beat the price rise and lock in current rates! ✨

💻Feel free to message me to discuss your plans or request a contract.

Another first for my pepperoni pony and me — pole dancing! Pepper was, as always, a total star. I, on the other hand, was my usual chaotic self: mixing up left and right, getting lost, and generally wandering off in the wrong direction thanks to my wonderfully weird brain.

After his lesson, Pepper spent an hour chilling in the paddock before being hauled back onto the float and taken off to the lovely Francesca Silver‑Carter’s place for a couple of weeks of jump schooling. Chess is such a beautiful rider (some of you might remember she was Meg’s jockey at the Castlepoint races, where they finished a very close third), and I’m genuinely excited for Pepper to have the chance to pop over some fences with her.

I’m sure there’ll be plenty more updates to come :)

Turns out I am not quite ready to throw in the horse breeding towel completely... 🤍

I had a few mares that I was very interested in, but in the end I chose a mare who ticked all of the boxes:

✨ Performance proven
✨ Blue blood pedigree
✨ Broodmare proven
✨ Temperament
✨ Type

Welcome to the family, Lucy
