Cats Protection League Canterbury - NZ

Cats Protection League Canterbury - NZ We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens and assist with desexing and urgent veterinary fees where cost is an issue.

Established in 1971, incorporated in 1973, and now a charitable trust, the League is a registered charity dedicated to relieving pain and suffering in cats and kittens in Canterbury, New Zealand. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray, abandoned and surrendered cats and kittens and help where we can. If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten, please ring our cattery on 03-3840006, option

1 or email [email protected], to discuss and/or to make an appointment to view those available. The cattery is situated at 14 Charlesworth Street, Woolston, Christchurch and is open from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and from 11am to 2.30pm on Sunday and Tuesday to Friday. It is closed on Mondays and Public Holidays. Our office is also situated at 14 Charlesworth Street, Woolston and is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays). They can be contacted on 03-3840006, option 2 or by email [email protected]. Along with general advice our office provides the following services:

- We take in stray, abandoned and surrendered cats and kittens by way of a wait list although we assist in emergency situations as soon as possible.

- If your cat requires urgent veterinary treatment we can assist with vet fees where cost is an issue, including allowing you to pay off treatment in some circumstances.

- We run a desexing programme called the Feline Fix where we try to get as many cats desexed as we can. Discounted and subsidised prices are available to community service card holders and people with a low income at selected vets around Canterbury.

- We run a lost and found service. We encourage any pet owners who have lost their cat to list them on the page Lost Cats Christchurch, Trade Me and www.animalregister.co.nz.

- We hire out trapping and holding cages. The fees are $5 for trapping cages and $10 for holding cages plus a refundable bond of $20. As a charity we also appreciate donations of food and goods for the cats and of course money. Food and goods for the cats cat be dropped off at our cattery or office at 14 Charlesworth Street in Woolston during our opening hours listed above. Cash and eftpos donations can also be accepted there or they can be made to our bank account 02-1259-0057270-000 or via our givealitte page; https://givealittle.co.nz/org/cplcats

We thank you for your support!

Teenager Stormy came in to our care after being trapped on a rural property. She was full of worms and while terrified, she was not aggressive and allowed pats. Now healthy and desexed, she has gone to her new home today.

AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING BY APPOINTMENT. OTHER CATS ARE LISTED IN THIS ALBUM AND ON TRADE ME

Gustavo & Hector are about 8 years old. They are gentle boys; Gustavo (tabby) is the more confident and loves to be the centre of attention, while Hector (black) is more shy and acts as Gustavo's 'shadow' - sometimes almost literally!

Gustavo and Hector were surrendered with housemate Rua (already adopted) when their owners moved overseas. They have lived with children and dogs, and may be happy to do so again. Please note that we may ask to see how they react to any particular dog before agreeing to an adoption. They are closely bonded and we would like them to be adopted as a pair.

Solomon came into our care as he wasn't getting on with the other cat in the household. Both he and his owner were very upset when he was surrendered, and it took a while for him to decide we weren't that bad. Lovely to see him go to his new home today. :)

We received a wonderful update on Little Flower, who was adopted last month.
Hello there CPL! I just wanted to give you an update on our lovely Little Flower, she's settled very well right from the start. She's such an angel and so sweet, she didn't like being picked up at first but slowly trusted us and is the most cuddly baby ever! Took her to the first vet appointment we had with her and I was a little nervous how she was going to be but she was so well behaved. We are so blessed to have her. Thank you so much for helping us find the one CPL ❤️

Cassa, another of our Golden Years cats went to her new home today. Nearly 16 years old Cassa was very well loved, and was reluctantly surrendered when her owner went into rest home care. Cassa has some health problems and her new owners are happy to provide her with the love and care that she needs.

You might remember Earl Grey, the tiny hand-raised kitten who featured in the morning tea shout from The Breeze Canterbury 94.5FM. He is now a lot bigger and his owner has provided some photos and an update:
Just wanted to let you know that Earl Grey - we’ve named him ‘Charlie’ - is doing really well. We love him so much. He sleeps between us every night with his motor going. His personality is coming out more and more each day. He’s playful and such a sweet boy. He has captured all of our hearts and it was instant. He still loves his special blankie he came home with. Still does his biscuits and still plays with his little blue ‘love love’ as we call it. He fits into our family perfectly.

AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING BY APPOINTMENT. OTHER CATS ARE LISTED IN THIS ALBUM AND ON TRADE ME

Friendly siblings Sam and Lulu are about 5 years old. A little timid at first, they are gentle homebodies who enjoy being around people in an unfussy kind of way. As they are closely bonded, we would like them to be adopted as a pair.

Originally CPL kittens, Sam and Lulu have been returned as their owners are moving overseas. They have previously lived in a busy family home with children and a small dog, and might be happy to do so again (please note that we may ask to see how they cope with any particular dog before agreeing to an adoption).
