May is flying by & we haven’t told you about our Marvelous Men of May!!
Our 2026 calendar theme is CBBR families with multiple adoptees. You may have seen these boys grace the pages of our calendar over the years, but not as a full pack, so it was time to showcase them once again 🥰
Oskar was surrendered to us as a puppy 4.5 years ago, he was found by a family in a terrible situation & they managed to get him out, but were not in a position to have a puppy. Oskar went straight off to foster care with our trainer Denise & her pack of dogs. She saw so much potential in the wee man that she decided to integrate him into her pack & adopted him.
Stan, funnily enough, is exactly the same scenario as Oskar, just with a 6 year gap between the two boys!
These two boys are amazing bull breed ambassadors, well actually Denises whole pack of bull breeds are! She competes with the majority of her dogs & they have all won numerous ribbons & awards over the years. They recently attended the Mid Canterbury Dog Training show where Oskar performed like the champ he is & received one first, two seconds & a fourth. Just two more sets of qualifying certificates towards their championship title 🏆
Ronalds whole litter was part of an uplift by SPCA. It was extremely clear from an early age that most of the puppies were going to have hip & elbow issues, along with an extreme wariness of strangers. SPCA kept some of the litter to rehome & work with & they asked us if we could help them out. The whole litter was named after Harry Potter characters & Ronald Weasley was one of the puppies that came to us. He was lucky to go into foster care with Denise for intensive training, this was to try & help him build confidence with dogs & people. It became clear quite quickly that most people wouldn't be equipped to deal with the long-term training needs or the medical expenses that he would have, so Denise chose to adopt him. He is now 8 years old & has been an extremely expensive medical needs dog! His elbows needed to be repaired before he was 2 otherwise his joints would have closed up & he wouldnt have been able to get the type of surgery he needed later. He has also had the femoral head removed from one hip, & a partial femoral head removed from his other hip 🐾
Westley was surrendered to us as a puppy & is now a rambunctious 3.5 year old Daniff (Great Dane x Mastiff). We knew this boy was going to be on the bigger size & he has made it to 60kg so far. He is the big dork of the household & loves playing with the foster dogs & puppies that come into the home.
These boys have welcomed so many fosters - puppies & adult dogs - into their home. Oskar by far the most playful. Stan likes a play when it suits him & can be a bit more serious. Ronald is the sweetest old man, but is the one who sets the rules with the wee rascals that come into the home, where as Westley is all about playing but can be a bit intimidating with his size, as he plays like hes the size a lapdog 💝
Oskar & Stan come into the rescue for us to do dog interactions & training with the shelter dogs quite often, we are extremely thankful to have such well rounded dogs available for us to use when needed 😍
