Count the toe beans! 🐾

Cats normally only have 4 toes on their back feet but this little kitty has polydactyly resulting in extra toes. This is due to a genetic mutation, which her brother also had resulting in extra toes in him too. What is really unusual is the fact she has differing numbers of toes on each foot. 🐱

We recently held an Open Day at our Te Kauwhata clinic to showcase our newly improved facilities.💙🐾

Members of the Te Kauwhata community stopped by for a behind-the-scenes tour, giving them a chance to see how things work “out the back.” We set up example surgeries and our team demonstrated a range of everyday veterinary tasks, offering a real insight into what happens beyond the consult room.

Thank you to everyone who came along — we loved sharing our clinic with you! 💙

🌪️ Cyclone Safety: Don’t Forget Your Pets 🐾

Severe weather can be frightening for our animals, but a little preparation goes a long way. 🐶🐱🐦

☁️ Before the storm:
Bring pets inside early, prepare food, water, meds, and their essentials, and set up a safe indoor space.

🌪️ During the cyclone:
Keep pets indoors, calm, and close. Use a quiet room, familiar bedding, and stay relaxed. They take cues from us.

🌤️ Afterwards:
Check for hazards before letting pets outside and watch for signs of stress or injury.

🚫 Never leave pets outside or chained during extreme weather.

Your pets rely on you to keep them safe ❤️

Finn’s Chocolate Escapades 🍫🐾

Finn may have looked like a lovable rascal, but his habit of stealing chocolate shows just how dangerous it can be for dogs. Chocolate contains theobromine, which dogs cannot process well and can cause serious poisoning affecting the heart, gut, and nervous system.

After repeated chocolate incidents, Finn even developed diabetes and required lifelong insulin treatment.

His story is a great reminder to keep chocolate safely out of reach and act quickly if your dog eats any.
